God: person as cause OR cause as persona God: person as cause OR cause as persona

In some of the early versions of theology, god was a name or personification of a cause: there was thunder, therefore a god of thunder; a fertility problem, therefore a god of fertility; a universe, therefore a god that caused the universe; etc…

Then, with some of the early, more esoteric versions of Christianity, God was thought of as Supreme Being more that a supreme being. The distinction being the lack of personification with the former compared to the latter. God as Supreme Being has a connotation that seems to imply a supreme principle of beingness or a supreme cause of being rather than a person or entity.

So, I'm wondering if the descriptions or the way we denote God have more in common with a cause as their object rather than an entity. An attribute like omnipresence (universality) seems more fitting to cause, principle or law than an object or entity.

Don't know why you'd assume that.
