Girlfriend broke up with me because I am not Christian - Page 4 - Religion, God, and Theology

I feel pretty bummed right now. I just don't understand why religion is such a big flippin deal. Enough to the point that its worth breaking up with someone over. Someone plz enlighten me, because i just don't understand why religion is so important.

That's easy, or impossible. Is there anything that is very important to you? Any moral value you expect from every girl you are serious about?
If yes - well, some people feel just as strong about their religion.
If no - sorry dude, there is no way of explaining this to you.

I don't know why it took her so long to leave you, though. She must have fooled herself into thinking that she could change you yet.

It has nothing to do with religion.... She just love God so much that She can't be with someone who does not love the God she serves. Her relationship with God is more important than anything in this world. I believe it was hard for her at first but she did the right thing after all. you may not understand that right now, but someday you'll understand!

But on a more serious note, going into a relationship with you knowing that you're atheist and waiting 11 months to properly approach the subject is not someone you'd want to spend more time with. Eventually she'd mess you around in multiple other ways because her decision-making processes sound very selfish.

An aetheist can be totally happy with a ´religious´person because he knows it´s just a fantasy. But so many religions, including Christianity in all it form, regard non-believers as heathens. And to take it a little further, radical Islam also says that those heathens should die. Even Christian philosophers have depicted heathens as rotting in hell.

To a person who has converted to a faith that basic principle is not for negotiation. It is logical. An aetheist understands that people want this fantasy of a god, and while it can make for a more cohesive society it is also the most divisive at times.

I feel sorry for both the OP and his ex-girlfriend.

I hope you feel better OP but better you start the healing process now than drag it on till you are discussing taking your relationship to the next level before she drops the bomb.

As low as this may sounds, I confess to having went to church BECAUSE of a girl. Just wanted to spend more time with her and such. But, really could not take all of the people of her congregation who tried to impose their thinking onto me.

In the end, i made the decision to disconnect from any sort of church or religious organizations.

OP is lucky to be rid of this one. Long ago, I adopted some quick litmus tests regarding women. If they smoke, have tattoos, or believe in god, I want nothing to do with them. (Talking long term here. I've definitely made short term exceptions because, well, you know...)

It's probably a bit of a generational thing. When I grew up, a tattoo was a sure sign of a less educated person. Now it's becoming a very trendy thing to have. I could probably ignore a small, discrete tattoo, but a tramp stamp or a tattoo on the breast is a huge turnoff to me.
