we're arguing about things that we can't see, hear or feel, and in the end, its just going to be a one sided argument where most of the people state what they "see, hear, or feel," and when it comes to spirituality, faith, religion, etc, we cant really witness it with the human senses if it does exist.

with all religions, it comes down to one thing; faith... even if that religion gives you some type of proof of their credibility, u have to decide if its actually credible.

so there really is nothing to argue about in this forum. everything is laid out for someone to decide, and most know very little about the things they bash or believe.

Nemo,

I've posted quite a bit so far in this forum, and not once have I posted about what I can "see, hear, or feel".

What the **** are you talking about?

Perhaps you should leave?

actually, as it turns out, there are some very intelligent posters in here that are very knowledgable both about their "side", as well as the "other" side...

I think it would be an error to assume this forum was about "finding the truth". It doesnt matter if most of it is inane "theists are dumb"/"atheists are immoral" arguments. There is value in analysing opposing viewpoints, irrespective of whether you are ever going to agree with the other party.

Then stick around - theists on SMP and now here often appeal to evidence. I've posted before about the incorrect definition of faith and how in the New Testament many references are made to evidence, including by Jesus - "If you don't believe Me, believe the works I do" - for instance.

What? Really? Evidence? WHAT? WHERE?

Seriously though the OP is non-sense. I feel this forum has the capacity to help people expand their thinking on the concepts of religion and "God". A simple example of an informative and educational thread(to some extent) was the "ask me" thread by Bias1(JW) which provided everyone with an insight into a less mainstream religion showing an immediate benefit of this forum. There has also been some great discussion on the influence of religion in society already and there will be much more to come. I for one have also enjoyed and learned from some of the discussions which have taken place.

To write this forum off completely at such an early stage because of some threads degenerating into a stale and unproductive back and forth between the immovable theists and unstoppable atheists is short sighted and overly-pessimistic with regards to the potential of continued, varied, well mannered and important(to some people) discussion in the future.

.
It exists all around us in the form of wars, and hate. Turn on the news. There are all kinds of people fighting over who has the better imaginary friend. I try to understand (via forums or whatever) why some people need religion.

Really? Then why hasn't anyone posted this "evidence" in the other thread asking for evidence other than the holy book?
