It's impossible to establish that one way or another. Those who are skillful at withholding the truth are never found out. Only those who fail to withhold the truth are available for analysis - which is an extreme selection bias. (I think I can paint a picture that says skilled liars make good spouses, but it would take a long time and masses of data.)

David Brooks is a tool. He uses the phrase "the tyranny of the perpetually open mind..."

This lady, I don't know. Judaism isn't my thing, so I don't care how rigorous anybody is in its practice. David Brooks should go jump in a lake though.

open minds are such evil things, obviously, that they by their nature cause tyranny.

i shudder to think of a belief system where an open mind is openly reviled as a tyrannical and dangerous thing. sadly, it's far more common than it should be.
