For Christian's only. You die, turns out Heaven is real. God is there he says "ok here's what's up..." Where do you believe he is sending you, heaven or hell?

What is the point of this poll? Of course Christians think they're going to heaven, why else would they be Christian?

For real you don't worry about whether you'll have infinite bliss or infinite torture for eternity?

Anecdote: Friend of mine worked some years at a home for the elderly and she said it was very common that many of the christian residents would break down into depression fits and panic because they believed they were going to hell.

the question is not "where will you go" it's where do you think you'll go.

Torment would be a more accurate word to describe punishment in Hell than torture.

Torture often refers to a method of forcing someone to reveal information that they are reluctant to reveal by way of inflicting severe physical pain on them.

I have an elderly Christian friend who isn't sure if she is going to Heaven or Hell. She's worried that maybe she isn't a "true" Christian since she thinks that she hasn't sufficiently "walked the walk" that a "true" Christian would have walked.

I am an agnostic Deist with Christian hopes. If Heaven exists, I will be there, but I'm not counting on it. Hell does not exist in any reality, even a Christian's.

Why do you believe that you will be in Heaven (if it exists)?

Good.

How many "realities" are there?

I am a Deist, but I can't prove God exists.

I will be in Heaven, if Jesus Christ died for my sins, otherwise I'll just be in a hole in the ground. Hell does not exist in my reality.

The only reality is my own.

Thanks for clarifying.

Quote:

Jesus did die for your sins. But to receive God's mercy you must "confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead." (Romans 10:9). If you have done that, then would not be deist, as you claim you are.

"My reality" is a nonsense phrase. And Jesus talks about Hell far more than anyone else in the Bible. Hell is a real place.

So, now you're a solipsist? I'm confused.

Lag,

I just wrote up a big long post, and got logged out before posting, so, screw it.

Just understand that anyone in this forum who knows me, also knows that I change my mind all the time -- based on facts, evidence, and good arguments. It's just one of my endearing qualities.

Perhaps you've heard this, I think it's one of Hitchens' particularly good quotes:

It will happen to all of us, that at some point you get tapped on the shoulder and told, not just that "The party is over", but slightly worse: "The party is going on - but you have to leave - it's going on without you".

That's the reflection that I think most upsets people about their demise. All right, then, because it might make us feel better, let's pretend the opposite. Instead, you'll get tapped on the shoulder and told, "Great news! This party is going on forever and you can't leave. You've got to stay; the boss says so. And he also insists that you have a good time."

Changing your mind based upon arguments and evidence is indeed commendable.

In your case, however, you seem to hold three incompatible views AT THE SAME TIME.

Consciously holding incompatible views is a Christ-like virtue. “Love your enemies” is a clear example. It’s not that the idea of ‘don’t make enemies’ didn’t occur to him. Rather, there is something more true about loving your enemies compared to not making enemies.

Similarly, there is something more true about holding incompatible world views compared to always preserving a single one. To be clear, I’m not saying that there isn’t any truth in preserving a single world view or not making enemies.

What Christian teaching is incompatible with "love your enemies"?
