Am I supposed to conclude that saying "Christ" means you believe he is the Messiah because it's somehow offensive and presumptuous?
His name wasn't Christ. It was Jesus

Christ literally means Messiah

I have a friend that I sometimes refer to as "El Presidente." It literally means "president." But I don't believe he's the president of anything. How does your analysis fit with this situation?

Yes. But there's not much going on in this thread anyway.

Not in everyday English usage. To us it means, well, you know who.

If you refer to 'Captain Kirk' you're obviously presupposing the actual existence of Starfleet.

If we're going to be silly then Jesus wasn't his name and he wasn't termed Christ. Those are just transliterations. So using a false name is really just an affirmation that you don't believe in him.

I disagree

Christ is implying he is the messiah. I stand by that

I suppose you'll just have to take our word for it.

Christ *means* Messiah, yes. But calling someone something doesn't imply that the really are that. Again, "El Presidente."

It's a name made up by Christians meaning messiah

Cnn would never report "the muslims attacked the chosen people" would they? Or should they?

I'm pretty sure the Greek word Christos preceded Christianity.

Edit: Your argument seems to suggest that you shouldn't have an issue with "Jesus Christ" but that you should really have an issue with "Jesus Messiah."

I'm pretty sure CNN wouldn't call my friend "El Presidente," either. What's your point?

If you asked random US American about what "Christ" means, what do you think they will say?

He affirmed it when someone did, though.

Would you like to cite something to back up this claim?

I am sure you will find Nietzsche's "Geneology of Morals" very interesting. His point of view is the opposite.
