Listening to Sproul on an interview today comparing 3 different schools of hermeneutics I decided to look up something more on the topic and came across an interesting link explaining some of the general guiding principles and some of the mistakes that can be made.
Hermeneutics is one of early medieval christian scholars' big contributions to text analysis. That being said I think most modern christian scholars seem to make a complete mess out of things and do not follow the fine principles of hermeneutics at all.
This especially applies too fundamentalist and literary interpretations of the bible, which by hermeneutical principles is complete folly.
And hermeneutics is hardly a science, it is a text interpretation method.
