Splendour has just lost all credibility with me. Granted, she didn't have much to begin with, but she had some. I don't think I'll even bother reading Splendour posts now. Might be time for the ignore feature, because I don't like being trolled by unfunny trolls.

I'm only tracing things out rather like atheists do when they claim the bible oppresses women by saying "Wives, submit"...tracing this to Ephesians chapter 5 yet leave off the foregoing and following verses. Here they are:

21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

People seem to be selective though when they investigate things. Why aren't they more thorough?

Splendour lost what little credibility she had with me when she went around misquoting Buddha. That in itself is no crime, but when she was challenged with the facts, she claimed that her misinterpretation of what Buddha said (in a way that was consonant with Christian thought, of course) was just as valid as the actual quote. I realized there's no point in arguing with someone who can't differentiate their own delusions from cold, hard facts.

The bible is used to oppresses women for a multitude of reasons. The verse you posted, is usually not one of them, and even if it is, is just one of many.

We dont say the bible oppresses women. We claim religious people do and they do so based on the bible.

If you really cared about it though you would be more concerned with your fellow theists who use the bible to oppress women then the people who point out that oppression.

I don't recall misquoting the Buddha.

If you ask me you are too fond of drawing your religious lines to sow seeds of discord among groups and maintain your atheism.

Buddha lived ahead of Christ and whatever he wrote he could reject or rescind in favor of Christ if he had the chance to see and observe him or read about him.

I think a highly spiritual person would be apt to recognize another highly spiritual person and that would be a rational response on the part of the Buddha.

Buddha himself said "to kill the Buddha". It doesn't mean he couldn't recognize the genuine article if he became acquainted with it.
