Any other atheists have a problem with Santa Claus? Any other atheists have a problem with Santa Claus?

It should at least be mentioned in this thread that many Christian clergy (and some parents) attempt to remind kids at Christmas and Easter about the "real meaning" of those holidays. In other words not Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. It is however always a tough sell. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. How can a promise of everlasting life compete with the reality of a Nintendo under the tree or chocolate bunnies and eggs?

So I am undecided about whether it is the atheists or the Christians who have the most problem with Santa Claus. My belief is that fundamentalist Christians are the least likely to promote that childhood myth. But I don't have anything other than anecdotal evidence to support that conclusion. Believing in Santa Claus is restricted to children, and is deliberately perpetuated by adults. Believing in God and Jesus is a historical relic of our cultural evolution and colonization by the empires of Rome, Spain, Portugal, and Britain, and of course is intended to be a lifelong (or even eternal) condition. It is perpetuated by a professional clergy, usually with the cooperation of parents (who are usually motivated by the desire to have their children "behave properly" and to "honor" them), and in the case of husbands to have their wives "submit themselves" to them. Sounds good! In the case of the millions of converts in colonized lands, it appears to have been an example of "bait and switch" in that the priests were selling one thing and the peasants were looking for something else entirely. But I digress slightly.

I actually have two children. My son just turned 8 and my daughter is about to turn 4. Hopefully we will have a third before too long. Not that anyone cares, but it was brought up so I figured I would respond.

I told my kids that Santa couldn't afford Obama's government mandated health care for the elves so he had to fire them all and now there isn't anyone left to make toys.

Surely as a cristian you're in favor of as many people as possible having some type of health care assistance? I hate all politicians and can find a lot wrong with the health care legislation that was passed, but in general im assuming christians should be for it? (true christians that is lol) do you think medicare is a good thing?

I don't have a problem with social safety nets. I have a problem when they are implemented stupidly though. Any system which depends on perpetual growth is doomed to fail. Either the implementers of such systems were idiots or they simply didn't care because the collapse wasn't going to be their problem(which makes them *******s in my book).

also I told my kids not to worry about christmas....the chinese would make sure there were plenty of toys.

...lastly I was just joking about telling them Obama made Santa Clause fire the elves.

Someone look this up in the Bible for us.
Does the Bible say give to the poor, or does it say have the government tax people to give to the poor?

I tend to vote republican mainly because I am pro-life but I don't quite think I fit the republican mold.

I am not against a single payer universal health care in principal I think progressive tax rates/wealth transfer can be beneficial to the economy as well.

Earned income tax credit is an example of a wealth transfer.

That so did not go where I thought it would. I guess I should have read the "Christian" banner at the top.

Kinda funny that they completely sidestep why we should believe in God but not in Santa.
