Second class bishops=women, pending legislation

More sexism in the church, with the traditionalists trying to "second class" women bishops.

Oh dear.

I would chalk it up as a "more sexism in society" opposed to specifically women. But sure.

But in reality... women have just as much rights - if not more - as men. Nice random act of ******ness, religion.

Oh my goodness gracious.

How the world likes to groan over rights. Hopefully, our deliverer is coming soon to deliver us all out of these human rights messes because all the humans seem to do be able to do is complain about things.

Did complaining really ever get anything done in this world? It might wake someone up...that's about all....it takes courage and determination to get things done in this world. And skill or knowledge helps a bit.

Pff yeah splendour lets demote these women because we like to complain. not because we're sexist. I mean is that literally your position?

And uke_master, bit of a stretch to call it societal surely?!

It's a stretch to say we live in a sexist society?

What does the New Testament say about a woman's role in the church?

Yes, complaining about rights led to real change in this world like the womens suffrage or the civil rights movement.

This is a far bigger change than any led by the institutions of your ficticious god.

Quaker women (God's followers) were the leaders of the women's suffrage movement.

What makes you think God is cavalier about women's petitions? Moses petitioned God on behalf of the daughters of Zelophehad in the OT.

Quote:

When the daughters of Zelophehad heard that the land was being divided among the tribes but not among the women, they convened to discuss the matter. They said, “G‑d’s mercy and compassion is not like the compassion of mankind. Mankind favors men over women. G‑d is not like that. His compassion extends to men and women alike . . .” (Yalkut Shimoni, Pinchas 27; Sifri, Numbers 27:1)

I don't think God exists, so I clearly don't think anything about his views on women. I am simply saying that people arguing and fighting for rights has very much led to a better world. Your flippant dismissal of rights as just complaining is utterly void and ignores history. And yes, obviously, in a heavily religious world some of the people involved in fighting for rights are religious. Martin Luther King and Ghandi were both religious. But you don't get to count that as a point in your favour.

It might have led to a better world in some ways and it might have delayed us in other ways.

God has his own timeline and plan but there's no reason people shouldn't be cooperating with Him in spirit building in the here and now.

A lot of rights activists come out of religious traditions. Probably more come out of religion than anywhere.

You can go back to the split between the 12 Tribes of Israel and see the split occurred between them when 10 tribes took exception to Rehoboam's harsh treatment and decided to split from Judah and Benjamin into the House of Israel.

You can go back to the Exodus for that matter and see Moses urged by God into protesting for people against the Pharoah's inhumane treatment.

Still peace doesn't come out of conflict. Conflict demonstrates the absence of peace in the human soul.

So Splendour your case is that we should always accept what the church says?

Nah, you should focus on what God says and try to ferret out the deeper meanings.

That's why God gave you an intellect. So you can think for yourself.

Aren't you just as important to God as any old church? As a matter of fact you are the church....

All a church is is people joined to the body of Christ.

Of course, sometimes the church has a lot of people that have thought, longer and harder and with greater clarity and success than the average person. So they have a lot of people to learn these skills from.
