I wanted to do a couple things today. First Im new to the forums and wanted to introduce myself to the community here. Although I have been reading these pages for a while, I didnt really want to get into the drama that can sometimes accompany being a member of a society online. Currently I have a new job which allows me basically to be on the computer at all times of the day and as such I see the +EV that goes along with becoming a contributing member of select online poker forums, this of course being one of them.
The second thing I wanted to accomplish was the searching and location of a poker mentor and/or group of players to intimately discuss poker theory with so that I can grow as a player. While I realize that finding the the right group of peers will be accomplished by my own personal involvement on the forums, I think posting here specifically will more readily accomplish my goal of finding a mentor. Now I know that this is forum specifically pertaining to staking, I also have come to the conclusion that people share their knowledge regarding their personal passions for one reason, personal gain. That personal gain can come either in sheer personal satisfaction that the individual has been able to spread his love with someone else in the world, or in some cases, but not limited to, monetary gain or being paid to do so.
I have recently come to this conclusion. Regarding my specifics; being a somewhat newer player and having only limited experience and profits, recently exploring the possibility of playing poker as a feasible income option, acknowledging the fact that playing poker is a dream of mine, all coupled with the fact that my life has afforded me the opportunity to really give playing poker seriously a thought, I feel that powers that be, governing my life, are opening the door for me, right now, to give it a shot! I do have limited funds right now, and cant really properly manage a bankroll, which is evident from my past history, winning a couple hundred from a tourney, running it up losing it, rinse-wash-repeat, I do need a mentor/teacher, someone who can exponentially increase my learning curve because I feel I already have the prerequisites of a winning poker player (I grew up in my teens playing Magic the gathering, draft format, for money so I could party, buy stuff etc, Magic had a tremendous amount of metagame like poker, Im in sales, my father was a used car sales person so i was taught growing up how to read people), and I could accomplish everything by having someone stake and mentor me at the same time, swinging the pendulum towards +EV and minimizing -EV for both of us, additionally I know my "mentor" will have financial motivation to the "words of wisdom" and lessons he will be sharing with me.
About me: I am willing to put in the dues and start from the bottom. I did that in sports, I did that in sales, and Im willing to do that for poker. Im 26 at the end of this month and very active and in good health. Everyone should know the mind, body and soul work together and are only as strong as the weakest link. I read and study alot already, my favorite book being Barry Greensteins "Ace on the River" (Im part asian, and as such I have a permanent abacus in my head aka I love math LOL)but I will be reading quite abit more often because of the career change and the fact it allows me on the computer 24/7. I Tivo every WPT, WSOP, High stakes, poker after dark there is, I know its basically highlights, but if I can get something out of it now that improves my game it could pay off infinitely along my lifetime. I live in souther California and typically play the 20 or 40 buy in NL at Hawaiian Gardens where most people would classify me as a dominating player there (I typically win 100-175 in 4-5 hour session during the times of 9am-5pm when its filled with all the other poker degenerates
)
Like I said, im willing to put in the dues, expect to play 20-30 hours a week, and start off on the bottom of the poker chain. If anyone is interested in speaking with me about anything please feel free to PM me, I should be able to respond quickly. I want to get immersed in the community here at 2+2 as quickly as possible. And if you would like to get to know more about my specifics, who I am, or you're interested in my proposal and would like to help confirm yes or no whether you would entertain this opportunity and take a chance with me, please feel free to PM me.
I look forward to becoming a regular on these boards!
