Hey,

So I'm into staking couple students, how do I protect myself and what precautions should I take? And what ways are there for me to track their play?I know I can double check there winnings/losses on tableratings, but what if the stake is on a site that's not tracked by tr? Such as cake?

Thanks

I didn't put 2 and 2 together. Hi.

To answer your question:
1) don't stake people that don't have good references and aren't longtime members of this site with a reputation. if they have a rep, many people won't risk it.
2) make them use pt3 or HEM to track their games
3) have their username and password to make sure that the numbers on HEM/PT3 match up with what's in the account.
4) DO NOT STAKE PEOPLE YOU DON'T 100% TRUST.

Hi

oh and +1 to this. Basically just research the players you are thinking about staking very thoroughly. Find out everything you can about them and their previous history. Take your time and be picky, you're staking to make money so you want the best.

Yeah don't stake someone you don't fully trust. imo you should trust them enough to believe them when they ship you your stake of the money and trust them enough to know they are being truthful when they show you their status on HEM or PT3. If you aren't sure if you can trust them this much then it isn't a good idea to stake them in the first place.

Is this standard?

Say the stake is on FT, and at the end the horse claims to have won x dollars. I can at least verify that on tableratings. What if the stake is on a site like cake that TR doesnt track?

Also, I was thinking, can I ask the horse to create an account under an email I control? So that way I'll have at least partial control of acc, like ability to freeze acc, cancel cashouts, ect.

Thanks!

why is it easier to find a stake if you're a losing player with a good story then a winning player that just boinked a big score?

Many people care more about references/trustworthiness than results especially for MTT where it's tough to know someones true ROI

I'm curious what everyone thinks the bankroll requirements for staking are. Say I'm also playing out of my roll and am moving up/down based on how much I have, how much should I have to stake someone at say NL50? I would likely start them off with at most 10 buyins, as I'd be staking people that weren't completely busto online, and refilling evey so often as they need it. If I had 2 horses instead of one would I need twice the bankroll or only a little more?

for the people i stake, i keep like 300 buy ins for the lowest tier, and like 100 ish for the highest.

all working out of same "BR".

How does everyone track the people they are staking? What are the typical terms for staking a SnG player? Time or x tournaments? Typical percentages?

Just curious.

There's 2 different ways you can do it.

1) Stake them X amount of buy ins to play Y amount of games then end stake. For example, 20 buy ins to play 40 games.

2) Stake them X amount of buy ins and play as many games as they can in the time period you set. For example, 20 buy ins and play for 2 weeks, play as many games as you can optimally during this timeframe. I would suggest a required number of games per week if you do stakes for longer than 1 week. This is preferred if you're staking volume sng grinders.

You can track a players results via sharkscope for sngs. Sharkscope does miss a game or 2 sometimes, but generally speaking they're pretty accurate. If you're going to be staking sng grinders, a sharkscope subscription is a must so you can filter the results for your stake.

Standard terms are generally 50/50 split + make up. Some backers like to give incentive to players, such as "If you turn $200 into $1000+ then the cut goes to 55% for the player". Of course this is your decision whether to give bonuses or not. Some backers like to do it to give the player something to work for.

Hi zan, sorry for disappearing, but things happened that were completely out of my hands, had no chance to access the internet for a while. Please get back to me asap concerning the stake, I urgently need to recall those funds.

I won a few right off the bat and sent stakeback back right away, then I finished the series roughly 200% ROI and sent another $55. We used gmail chat and he was online a lot. We talked about poker and all sorts of random stuff, getting along really well I thought.

We talked about me running another stake and he decided to send me $250 for basically the same type of thing but some portion for HORSE/razz cash games. We didn't really iron out the details but I sat with $30 on 2 tables and started out up, so I said I think that I can just keep building off that and outlined a plan with $30 for the BR for cash games and $220 for SNG which is a nice number for 40 SNGs. We talked some about me moving up to the $11/45s but I said that I wanted to just get off to a good start then we can re-evaluate and I would play $220 worth of SNG whether it is all $5 or some $11 mixed in.

All of a sudden he went from being online all the time, even though he was marked afk/busy a lot to never online. The last time he emailed me was Jan. 23rd and I have sent him a few mails saying like, what is going on, I hope everything is okay. There is some reason I could think he might be upset with me, but I haven't really broken the agreement or anything. I sent him some emails asking him what he wants me to do about some issues related to it, but it is hard when he never responds.

After things got running I said I will play no higher than $.50/1 HORSE or razz, but sometimes when I play there is nothing but $1/2 and .04/.08 going. So, one day I booked a small loss at stud8 and I started playing some 8-game at the lowest limits, $.20/.40 but I have been winning marginally. I sent him an email asking if this is okay or what. I said that if he isn't okay with it I will just book it all to my own BR, which is a win for me anyways. I just came back to playing after 2 months off from having to cash out. I told him that I was going to take some shots with my own BR, so if he sees some $20+ MTT on my OPR not to be worried. He said to keep all my FPP, but I actually ran some sats to $12 SNG and booked some wins, which help because I have been running under expectations.

It is getting toward 2 weeks he hasn't responded to me. The stake is only a bit up and I blew my shots with my own pitiful BR. If I just close out the stake, I will be left with almost nothing. I have kept good track of everything on google docs which he can view too and he was originally pretty trusting, like "just use your head" about what to play. Should I just extend the time of the stake beyond $220 worth of SNG? I ran kind of bad so it is probably +EV for him. Should I just stop playing this stake, hold onto the money, and look for a new backer?

He seemed like the type of person that is always online. He says he grinds 50NL and he seems decent at MTTs too. I stalked his OPR and he played a set of $4/180s and a $17 MTT a few days after he disappeared, then the 3R Feb. 1st and nothing since. For some reason he said he was living with his friend and always talked about taking care of their baby, so I think maybe he has some issues, but he always seemed fine. I guess I will give it some time and not write him off as dead yet... but how long do you wait? I was thinking we are going to set up some stuff long term, then he is never around.

situation is pretty simple... staking agreement was for sats to EPTs and WPTs and some prelims it wasnt to specific and pretty loose. the deal was standard he was a buddy of mine so basically 50/50 w makeup.... he wants to play higher other person doesnt want to back that high so he found someone else who was willing but wants the action he was giving up to his current backer. so they started talks of a buyout for the makeup and neither knew was was standard

he has a 50% roi on ftp over 2700 tournys and 63% on stars over 3400....just need some suggestions

With this economy, I have no idea where stocks are going, and I'm tired of getting 2% interest in my savings account. I'm looking into backing a solid online player in some live prelims.

He's def solid, his stats:

(Stars)
Profit: $208,246.73
Return on Investment: 61.96%
Average Buy-In: $110.29

He did just cash for $50k about a week ago, before that his ROI was 47%.

On Full Tilt
Profit: $145,185.03
Return on Investment: 53.90%
Average Buy-In: $102.70

He also just cashed for ~ $50k on Full Tilt, with a previous ROI of 36%.

He's satellited into a few live $10ks, (5 or 6 I believe) but hasn't cashed.

He's looking for a stake where he can play a lot of $500-3k prelims, and $1k megas to the $10k. Wynn classic, caesars circuit, harrahs circuit, etc. I also would have him in a ton of WSOP prelims. It's around 25 events for ~$40k. I would probably be splitting this with a friend.

I don't have a ton of money since I just finished school (~$100k atm), but know I can have riskier investments since I'm young. Also I play myself, and make pretty good $.

Is this a good investment for me? Too risky? I know it's not a huge sample size, but I feel like live fields are gonna be a lot easier. It would probably be 50/50 with makeup.

Any stakers have any advice?

Say the stakee is a solid winning player and he provides half of the BR for a cash game stake. The deal is 50/50 with coaching provided. Given the stakee provides part of the BR, does it or should it change anything to the terms? What about makeup?

thanks.

Can the room where occurs the staking deal accept to prevent the stakee from cashouting or making transfers during the staking deal?

Question:
What do you use to track your stakees results?
Atm, my stakees send me their results on an excel spreadsheet on a regular basis.
I make a data compilation myself to have an overview on all stakees.
However I believe some of you have more elaborate spreadsheets to track several stakees at he same time and have a global overview of their/your results.
I read somewhere on 2p2 that a stakees tracking website was being setup too (for stakers with 10+ stakees) but I cannot find the post any more.

Anyone willing to help or post their tracking system is most welcome.

Penny,

The online system you're talking about is being developed by Nat Arem if memory serves me right, no clue where the post is at though.

Many thanks. I found the site but it's still in Beta tests atm: http://www.donkbluff.com/

So any other tips for stakee tracking are still most welcome.

Hi all

I am considering offering stakes out of my own online winnings. I would like to know what I should expect from the person being staked, and what they should expect from me in return.

Is 50/50 the norm, or is it likely to be more in one or the other direction?

Should I be asking for an update daily or weekly, I assume daily. What information would I be asking for. profit/loss is a given. But should I also be asking for full hand histories, times played, stakes played, number of hands or tournaments played. Anything else?

For NL Cash I was considering a total of 20 buyins in stake, with the player holding 10 buyin's max at the end of the day/week (depending on when the split/reload happens) does this sound correct?

For sng's (both single and multi table) I was thinking of letting the player hold 20 buyin's, and for MTT's 10 buyin's. Again, does this sound correct?

I don't plan to offer stake for FL at this time, however I may decide to do so in the future. No idea what amount to leave with the player on this one though.

I am sure I will have more questions, but will leave it there for now.

Many thanks!
