I am staking someone and we agreed to split profits once a week, every Thursday. He has to clear make up before we can chop.

- Towards the end of the week, if he's up money, he is scared to lose it and not be able to profit so he puts in less volume and probably plays a little scared.

He recently asked me if we could split profits daily instead of weekly.

- Am I taking on more risk by chopping daily instead of weekly?

No additional risk, just a much bigger accounting hassle having to do it daily.

Ok thanks Tyman. It's such a silly question but it made me confused.

It made me feel like if he was up $1000 and we split, then he plays and loses $1000 it would change my bottom line. Like he got paid and now he's in make up and I'm down money.

Vs if he made $1000 and we didn't split. He then loses $1000 and the roll is still the same.

As I'm typing this I realize how stupid this sounds. In the end, it doesn't matter because he has to make up the money.

Yeah, I mean it definitely benefits the backer to do splits less often in certain ways but as long as you are properly rolled for what you are staking for and as long as you don't mind the extra accounting work there's no difference in how much you will make by staking the person. It will actually increase your yearly expectation from the stake for both of you if it causes him to put in more volume because of it.

Hi all.

So i'm not sure if you're familiar with the 888 schedule but the $1.5m XL Inferno main event is coming up. I had some 50 cent tourney tickets and I used one for the first sattelite level. I didnt not realise you couldn't unreg for T$ (like on Stars) and now I find myself in the $109 sattelite for the main event. The reason for my message is that i'm looking to sell action as I don't usually play at these stakes. I'm wondering, what would be the best way to go about this? Cheers!

Are you a winning player over a decent sample? Without that and unless you have references it'll prob be tough to sell action, especially to a buyin level you don't normally play and beat. You are probably better off just taking the shot anyways tbh. You could trying posting in the marketplace though to try to sell if you want to though.

1) make-up: do i have to compensate a loss to 100% in order to claim a profit? or can i cut the make-up with 80-20 in his favour until i am at 0,- ?

2) for example my EV is 2000$ for playing 1 full month. with 20% cut i must ship 400$.
Can i suggest i ship maximum 400$ for the month?; which means if i have an upswing and win 3000$ he only gets 400$.
does that sound reasonable? Because 400$ is not a tiny sum.
There isn't much risk anyway for him because if i am losing, i owe him make-up and have to play until i am in the winning zone.

sry, i am new to staking
regards and ty
Think I understand post? what your saying is if your running above EV can you keep more of the profit? If that's what your saying that would be a no and your being unreasonable. I wouldn't even ask him as it may sour your relationship.

Dear 2+2,
I'd like to ask you all about how you would approach my situation(the short'ish' version):
A year ago I was a student trying to become a professional when a Pokerpro came up to me and offered to stake me for higher limits.
The deal would look like this: I play NL200-NL1000 online and he'd pay me 12€/Hour and keep all the winnings and Rakeback. Every month I get 1€ more to my hourly and if somebody wants to reevaluate it has to be done 1 month in advance to the change of the system and after 1 year we will rediscuss everything.
I started playing and EV was pretty much break even. (Rakeback obviously already paid my Salary) However, the real numbers went down and I went about 9k below EV.
I told him I am not comfortable losing that much money anymore (as a student with no money losing 9k is absolutely insane!!! even though logically it shouldn't impact me.) and that my volume suffered a bit because of that. We stopped raising my salary at 15€/Hour because of that.
So I told him I'd rather play NL100z for a while where I grinded out a steady 5bb/100 Winrate and worked a lot on my game.(roughly 40$ EV hourly on Stars over 200k hands).
I made about 13k in EV and 9k in actual $$$ on 100z so again I am running very poorly.
I also made 5-8k in Tournaments during this time. (EV unmeasurable)
What is also important to know: Everywhere I play but stars he got extra Rakeback because of him having affiliate deals so Rakeback is a lot better.
A few weeks ago he told me to play on another side NL200-NL1000 again because I am way better now and he gets crazy Rakeback there. No sufficient sample size so far but I am up about 2-3k and it felt like I was running poorly. With his rakebackdeal, we get roughly 60-70% Rakeback or something like that so it might be possible for me to make him 10k+/Month without having a winrate! (I am pretty positive that I have a winrate but only time will tell!)
Now my question is:
I need to reevaluate the deal. I can afford nl100z by now which gives me an hourly of ~40$. I can not afford to play nl200-nl1000 on my own.
I got about 15000€ this year from him as salary.
I want him to make money on me but at the same time I am in my early twenties and want/need to make money. I do not how long this income will be an option and 15€/hour when I can make 40$ on my own is just weird. Nl100z is basically risk/variance free 40$ hourly!!! This is insane for someone my age!
10k+/Month ONLY with Rakeback? That is just nutttttttz.
How should I approach the situation, what deal should I offer him? What is reasonable?
Nl100z is basically risk-free for him so I need to get a huge cut if he wants to "stake" me there (which is basically me being nice)
NL200-NL1000 can go up or down no sample size yet so risk is higher. But I want to take the higher hourly option.
I really want this deal to end good for him, we became good friends along the way but at the same time, I need to ask for better payment or some kind of profit split.
What are your suggestions? How would you approach this situation? What should I offer him?
Excuse my bad English and this super long read
If I posted this in the wrong Thread please just change it into the proper subforum <3
Love you all,
M

If you didn't discuss a timeframe then you should just quit this deal and play on your own

Why? Do you really think he deserves to lose money for making my dreamjob come true? Or do you say f**** it take the 40$ Hourly?

Sounds like he is up money from making your dreamjob come true? The guy isn't suggesting you scam him, tell him you wanna start playing on your own because your hourly would be much higher starting X date and send his funds on that date (or if he wants to stop right when you tell him , send then.) or alternatively he offers you a real stake instead of some ****ty hourly while he prints money from your effort/skills/time

I was assuming you were up more than 15 000€ so far and he had profited from you, if not maybe you guys can work out some deal so you end up both making money and then you can quit and play on your own.

Home Game Staking Question
Hey guys, I need some opinions on a situation that occurred yesterday pertaining to a home game that I semi-regularly play. It is a PLO game that can get pretty wild and before last night I was in $7k makeup. After not playing the game for months, I arrived to play, my backer being in the game as well.

Fast forward to the end of the night, and I am up $32k in this game, and unfortunately for my backer he books a $30k loss but he is still there hanging out. Tensions are high at the table as a few of the people are arguing over who knows what, and I decide to rack up and I say to my backer that I think I'm just going to leave and that I'll meet up with him later to get the money, and he agrees that this is a god idea because he felt like something was about to go down as well.

So I leave and waste time for about 20 minutes and he texts me to come meet him at his apartment. I am almost to his place and he calls me in a panic and says "don't come to the apartment" and hangs up. Long story short, he got robbed when he pulled up to his place with about $20k on him, and fortunately for him they didn't go into his place bc he had more in there.

So here is the question. I cleared makeup PLUS $25k in profit, of which I am supposed to receive $10k. Does the backer still owe me this money?

PSA to those of you who play home games. Always be wary and make sure you aren't being followed when you leave.

yes, once he took ownership of the money it was his responsibility to be safe. if it's a case of him not having the money to pay you immediately than i think it's fair that he should get a good amount of time to come up with the money, but since he is backing you and you say he had even more money in the house im guessing it's not a case of him not having the money. but yeah he owes you the money.

I’m thinking about taking a stake from a non poker playing friend. 3k to play live 2-3. I’m up 10bb/100 over the last 400 hours(20 months). I have a full time job and only play part time. Is 60%me/40%him with makeup a fair deal, if not what would you suggest? We’re longtime friends so trust isn’t an issue, also if I went bust and lost all 3k it wouldn’t hurt our friendship.

I also have a question about makeup and settling. We decide to settle evertime the br doubles to 6k. Well say right after settling the third time, I lose 500. Am I in makeup or not? Overall we’re both up money, should the mu start over after every settle or should all the previous winnings be counted in the makeup equation?

60/40 is fair. You have 3k stake money, when BR doubles to 6k you would split the 3k profit
(1800 for you and 1200 for him). This would leave you with just the 3k stake funds. If you then lost 500 and were left with 2500 stake funds you would be in makeup of 500.

It’s standard to not be able to quit the stake while in makeup. You would have an obligation to continue playing until you won back the 500 before ending the agreement unless stated otherwise beforehand.

In a perfect world the staker should never lose money and never receive less than his agreed upon profit share.
