What you are describing are agency costs, and they are a definite problem with poker staking. What happens is at times the interests of the horse and the backer are diametrically opposed, or at least not aligned. Probably the better solution is short term staking contracts with a higher cut for the backer and no makeup. Or if you were to join the bankroll as an investor, this would temper the problem somewhat.

Anyway, I would recommend no fixed time period, 50/50 split of all profits, either stake or stakee can end the stake any time it is in profit, but horse cannot end the stake if there is makeup without buying out the makeup at 50%.
Thanks a lot for the reply! Everything makes sense and I can definitely see how no fixed timeframe might be the better solution. To be clear, my intention is not to take advantage of my friend in any way, he was the one who proposed the 70/30 split. Bear in mind that he is not a poker player, therefore won’t provide me with any coaching during the deal. Thus, I don’t think I’m incentivized to agree to a 50/50 split when I could just sign up for a cfp and get the same cut it or even better plus “free” coaching.

I'm considering staking someone for online play. I'm wondering about the mechanics of transparency and auditing of results. Let say we agree to X dollars with a standard repayment and profit splitting after that and that our agreement is scoped to specific stakes at a specific site. How do I determine what his actual results in those stakes are in practice? I assume he would share hand histories at minimum, but is asking for the account password going too far? Hand histories with results that matches the expected account balance as shown in a screen share would work, but I occasionally see hands that glitched out in hand histories and don't load, so over a large sample size I'd worry the numbers might be off? Does he have to agree not to play other stakes on that site? I worry about how to verify if that has or hasn't been the case.

Can anyone point me in the right direction, appreciate any advice at this point.

I'm new to staking and have not been on either side of the coin before, but am very. trustworthy and respectful. I find myself seeking a higher stakes cash stake for GG Poker around the 5/10-10/20 mark.

Just unsure where to start really

Thanks guys.

Jordan
