Since there's so many posts on this thread, what's the best way to get started in staking? Online or live?

New-ish staker wannabe here. Thoughts on the staking etiquette for this situation?

You buy shares in someone's tourney entry on Marketplace. They bust their entry bullet(s) early. They decide to re-buy into the same tourney/same day, seeking out further investments from all the other original investors EXCEPT you.

In addition, they have time to post that they did this, yet claim they had no time to ask you.

Inconsiderate/rude or standard/reasonable? (Obv, I am on the former.)

inconsiderate, but if you are staking and anything besides getting your money stolen shouldn't get you upset. Just don't work with this guy ever again.

Hi there, I have 7 Years HU experience. I have been sponsored with three companies in the past, and all my accounts are in profit.

With my own money I play 20-30 NLH HU

And with sponsors in the past my usual limit was 100-200 dollars, sometimes 350-500 dollars depending on play.

I am currently in third year of university as a mature student, I am 28 and am based in the UK.

If you are interested in staking me, or have any offers please email me on Tomfri2@hotmail.co.uk

Thanks guys, and good luck at the tables!!!

Hi guys, Im new here. My question is how good does one how to be to get a staking deal? Do you need to be crushing the games u are currently playing in or do some backers accept eager less experienced players who are willing to put in the hours? (Basically seeking a poker "mentor")

Im not that experienced but have been playing seriously for about 6 months(with seriously i mean putting in the hours by watching videos, reading books and analyzing HH)

My main game which i love and aspire to be great in is 180 man turbos. I believe officialpokerrankings give an accurate account of your results on mttsng and im a decent player and winner att the micro Mttsng(180 mans)

Can someone check me up at officialpokerrankings(screenname AK5092 play excl. On stars) and see if i have potential to be backed with 200-300 buyins for the 2.50 180 mans? Would love a "pros" input. Cheers in advance and sorry for my bad grammar, not a native english speaker.

To disclose your full Stars(/FTP) stats, incl. the ROI, at OPR (Off. Poker Rankings), you need to opt in as per these instructions.

However, the main problem is not your hidden ROI, but the fact that your 2+2 account is new, and if you don't have references (respected players who can vouch for you), you're unlikely to get a stake because backers won't believe that you're not going to run away ('roll') with their money. Unfortunately, such thefts happen from time to time, and potential stakees are expected to prove their honesty by providing as much identity and contact information as possible, references, evidence of successful past transactions like trades or stakes (including those on other forums).

If you still wish to apply on 2+2 now, read the rules first.

Does anyone know a website where I can find a contract I can use for poker? So I only need to change the details of the staking deal everytime, rather than make something up.

Thanks.

Thnx for the reply. I've fixed the problem you were talking about, opted in but it says it will take a couple of days for officialpokerrankings to reveal my stats or something. Anyways i understand what you are saying and as i just created this account i see how backers can have a hard time trusting me with their money. Maybe i'll just have to grind up a roll that i feel comfortable playing with at the 2.50s the hard way . Bought membership at two different Mtt-training sites and feel that will improve my game very much if i apply myself. Already seeing some good result and finding out big leaks ove had, which was really my main goal with being staked.

So to the point i take it you are a good player and has been here a long while, could you do me a huge favor and just check out my stats at officialpokerrankings when they show up now that i opted in and tell me if what you see based on the stats alone is enough for me to grind out the 2.50s 180 mans.(assuming im properly rolled) Like am i ready for them or should i have much better results(ROI, ABI whatever dont understand it all yet)?

Would take 5 minutes for you but mean a lot to me, Cheers.

Hi All,
After some help really. I have tried to post a thread as I am looking for a stake but I get the following message...

"Neilcaterham, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation."

I realise my post count is low, this is due to being a member of another smaller forum (Pokermob) and posting regularly there as I have met some of them.
I have been staked before by a company and that ended with profits and no financial liabilities. I regularly sell shares on Pokermob and there has never been an issue.
Some help would be great, thanks all,

Neil

I did read the post above. I have been a member for 9 months albeit with a low post count, but easily identifiable as I am a PLO8 player and have POSITIVE staking history that can be checked.
My stats are always open.
So reading the posts above did not help.
Yet still I cannot start a thread staking related.

"yes i did it won't let me post"
"Sir, could you please check to see if you read the thread at the top of the forum"
"but i can't post"

ADVICE PLEASE!

Sorry for the caps

I have been playing poker part time for the last 5 years.
I have been profitable throughout.
I want to get staked.
I need advice.

My Situation
I am an expat living in Africa. I play only live games/tournaments.

Cash Games $1/$2 & $2/$4
Tournaments $50 upto $180

Why I want to get staked
My bankroll has always been restrictive and I can't build it fast enough to get into the higher stakes (but softer) games. I took a shot at it once when I was running hot and had a roll to support it and got burned pretty badly. Getting staked can help me finally jump to that next level sooner rather than later

ADVICE PLEASE
So I noticed that all staking deals involve mainly online rooms or USA only for live players. Do I have a shot at getting staked? My location makes me high risk since a staker is going to worry that I could be a scammer even if they like my action.

How would I start?
I don't mind starting small, proving myself, taking funds only when required. Knowing the bankroll is there helps me access the bigger games, even if I don't have all the funds with me.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

^ it's incredibly unlikely for you to get staked playing live poker from some stranger on the internet. There's just no way to hold you accountable. I remember a certain main event champ that wanted to get staked to play live cash games and even he was having a difficult time finding interest.
Your best chance is to find someone who trusts you and knows you are a winner in the games you are playing in.

Thanks for your comment.

I was hoping there would be a way to prove myself through smaller stakes initially, build a long term relationship and even meet in person with stakers.

I guess reaching out locally is my only option.

I would like to tell me some dets firstly bro,
Look, I was playing "semi pro" for 2 years now, the prob was that I am student for 4 years and I did not make the appropriate bankroll management, and also have spent a lot of money to other things out of poker as well, that's why I lost my bankroll.
I am playing as losos10 in stars. You can check me.

I just feel got it.

Hey, i am looking for information on staking for mtt's and how profits are split. The deal i have i am getting a 50% split from my higher buyins and a higher % split from low/mid stakes games. The problem is that working it out is a pain and i think it never really works out in my favor much of the time (the math is really too hard to work out).

This deal makes it feel like a disadvantage sometimes to settle up. Normally when i settle up i just search on sharkscope since the last time and filter to see which buyin level my profits have come from.

Can anyone recommend a better way of doing this that i can propose to my backer?
