is what you described against TOS?
Admitting to cheating sounds like a bad thing to do.

no, i get that zima... it's just, the guy is clownshoes sometimes, he always asks me to do this kinda stuff and I don't mind when I have nothing to do but I've been grinding out some low limit tourneys for a diff staking agreement I'm in and I didn't want to play it

If he had an emergency or something, it'd be different. I'd play it out and whatever, 50/50 sure, fair... he just wanted to go out and have fun randomly and party... PLUS he had other friends dying to play it for him.

He only wants me to play it because he has a higher chance of getting $ if I play it than if he does... and I dunno, if he wants to stake me he can do something for long term I figure... instead of just 1 tourney that kills potentially 6 hours of my life for nothing.

Yeah, for the record, I would never log in to another users account with their consent and play a tourney they signed up for.

Off the record, I would. I wouldn't consider that cheating though. It's not like he passed me his chips or something heh. THAT, I'd consider cheating.

But your short answer is, I'm a jerk for not just doing it and shutting up?

meh, this really shouldnt turn into a debate on whether its right or wrong (i know the poster who commented above me will want to bring this up)

idk, you are friends, just figure it out. if i staked my friend for a 1 off mtt cause i wanted to go out, i would prolly be a lil more leniant. i would split it 50/50 and than have someone buy the beers the next time we went out or something like that. (he should buy the beers in this case).

and no, "just doing it and shutting up" isnt the right answer. he is a "friend" so you should be able to come to a middle ground to make all parties happy.

Can anyone tell me how to get staked at a very low sum without people just ignoring my posts?

Yes. First, slow down. You've been a member for four days, and there are a ton of people looking for stakes.

What to do: There are a couple of threads in the staking forum where you can read staking advice and another to ask questions in. If you want it in a nutshell, get some solid (winning) stats online over a decent sample that backers can verify. You haven't posted a screen name, results, or really anything substantial yet, and seem to be in an awful hurry (which REALLY puts backers off). You have to show that you're a legit staking prospect before anyone's going to risk their money on you.

Hope that helps.

Also, this is way in the wrong place and totally derailing Kuval's thread, maybe an ATF mod wants to transfer mine and the above post here:

Say Im going to be staked to play NL200 live (max buy in 300). The deal is 50% on profit and if I lose my staker pays..How do you make the payment?. If the first day I win 200, will I take 100 that day?. Because It wont be fair that I take that 100 and the next day if I lose 500 the staker pays.. That way a monkey could win..So, how is this done?

if you win you take 50%...if you lose you are in makeup and all the profits go to the staker until you are back in the green

IMO to avoid being screwed over-You probably trust your staker but you never know

You should request that he pays the money upfront to play with.

You may have a few losing days and you never hear from him again since your playing with your own money
-------------------------------------
As for your question. If i was him i'd set a date to end the stake. Or a cashout date. So that I'm not going to have to deal with splitting money every single day.

So lets say you guys put this at 7 days:

Day #1+400
#2+300
#3-500
#4+500
#5-600
#6+700
#7+100

This leaves us with a balance of +900

900/2(since its 50/50) You pay him $450 u keep $450 and tuck it away.

If you were ending the stake there for good youd also pay him stakeback-The initial stake he gave you.

You could always go your route and pay him everyday if that is easier for you. GL with the stake if you have any questions just pm me

Or if you split it everyday using the same example, it'd end up the same.

Day 1: You: +200 Him: +200
Day 2: You: +150 Him: +150
Day 3: You: 0 Him: -500
Day 4: You: 0 Him: +500
Day 5: You: 0 Him: -600
Day 6: You: +50 Him: +650
Day 7: You: +50 Him: +50

Total: You: +450 Him: +450

The only difference is that it would *seem* more swingy as it kind of magnifies short term variance. But the end $result is the same.

I know

That's pretty obvious. My reason was so he didnt have to DEAL with splitting money everyday.

Also said at the end he could if it was easier-They see eachother often etc.

Sure. I know this guy from a poker training site and been chatting with him and stuff. Also hes had positive feedback on Chipmeup. My main question was that all this staking stuff seems so complicated for a beginner.

this might not be the right place to post this but w/e

when selling/buying action at makeup, how much does stakeback change said markup. I.E. if you were to sell action at straight up 1.3 markup, how much should markup change if you are giving stakeback, as opposed to just a static % of your winnings.
***Official Staking Discussion Thread: Use this thread for staking advice/questions*** Quote

you are always going to be giving "stakeback".

i think what you are asking is if there is makeup or not and how that affects the mark up...?
***Official Staking Discussion Thread: Use this thread for staking advice/questions*** Quote
08-03-2009 , 02:46 PM
No. He's asking if he will be selling action for an event, what should the markup be w/ and w/o stakeback.

As far as I know, % action is not sold w/ stakeback. It's only sold as a % of total earnings (not net profits). If your buyer wants 'stakeback' on an action buy, make it % action on profits only + stakeback.

His first sentence "if you are buying or selling action at makeup" is meant to say "if you are buying or selling action at markup". I don't think he's asking anything about makeup at all.

This probably isn't the appropriate place for this post but want to make everyone aware as he has post in this thread:

Figure you guys should be aware. MikeBing1 rolled my $260 stake from PartTimePoker in Dec of 08 and vanished with many false promises of payment back after this post.

"Ugh sorry no internet at my new apartment yet. Getting it setup with charter right now. Don't want to play on someone elses wireless, just too risky with 20 buy ins and playing 8-12 tables at a time. Hopefully i'll be up and running soon if not i'll try to check my ptp asap and leave me directions on what you'd like to me to do. I can ship back or just wait til the internets up and running and then run this full speed. Let me know. Thanks."

I had many successful stakes with MikeBing1 before this and from looking up his stats recently he continues to be a great player. If you want to make this right I'll delete these post immediately. Thought we could settle this privately but you continue to ignore any PMs I send you on PTP, Facebook, AIM, and now here.

Hi I have a question about a potential scam of someone offering me a stake.

I was offered a 10K stake in which I send 25% of profits back to him until he gets 25K back. He thinks I can and should be moving up and thinks we could both profit.

He knows me from playing together on Cake, where I play Heads up NL .5/1 and beat the game easily.

My Fear: Is there a risk of being scammed if I just send this guy my email, real name, phone number, and he knows my poker name?

I know this could be bogus, but as long as there is no risk I might as well see how serious he is.

Not sure what the scam could be unless he plans to hack your email and get your cake info, but $10k and only 25% profit split to the backer for a .5/1 player is definitely too good to be true.

I have a question about one time tournament stakes, whats a general range for the percentages in this situation? Say I wanted to get staked for one ftops event and thats it, whats a fair percentage for me to get?
