Which one would be better to get? Are they that similar, that it doesn't really matter? Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks

I am delving into this question, though I don't have much of an answer for you yet.
Hold Em Manager does not work with Bodog unless you buy a $50 hand grabber.
Hold Em Manager seemed to struggle with a large database of hand histories when I was trying to look at hand histories that meet a certain criteria.
Poker Tracker, so far, seems like using reports may not be that straightforward.
PT takes a long time to import and "optimize" a bunch of hand histories (which actually may be a plus in the long run if it can then be faster on future tasks on those hand histories).
PT seems to have a more formal user's manual.
Both have really good support people in this forum.

it seems like the note taking in Hold Em Manager is nicer/ you can see what you wrote a little bit more easily rather than each note being more like an item in a conversation log.

BTW, there's a workaround the Bodog issue.
Use Poker Tracker to import hands and be a HUD.
Import them from PT into Holdem Manager.
