How do you evaluate the success of a bluff or inducing a play when you have a made hand. E.g. A given scenario where say the board texture is exactly the same on flop, turn and river and you repeat the same play but you get different results for say a bluff. E.g. 1 failed, 1 succeeded. On an opponent with similar stats how would you differentiate?

2.
How do you manage an aggression factor of 10 at NL200? It sounds like fun and I wouldn't mind experimenting with this.
To be honest I am not quite sure how to answer these questions

I thought it was just OK. I think some of the criticism was deserved, but certainly they were way too hard on the movie. It just didn't have the same feel as the other Rambo movies. I like 1 and 2 the best with 3 being a distant 3rd. Rambo 4 to me is the Stallone equivalent of Rocky 5.

LA: Thanks for the Well thing... you are an inspiration. I have a few questions I haven't seen answered yet:

1.) How did you get started: How much did you deposit? What limits? Any bustos along the way?

2.) Life as a poker pro: I'm assuming you bought your house and probably didn't pay cash for it. Have any trouble securing a loan?

3.) Bankroll Management: How do you handle your bankroll? I'm assuming you don't just leave it all in your poker stars account. Do you cash out a certain amount every X number of days? Or a certain percentage? What do you do with the excess?

4.) You mentioned starting your pro career with $1000 to your name. Can you elaborate on how you managed to make that work?

Any chance of putting up a video up of the style you played when you was playing NL200-NL400 with relentless aggression - It be great for educational purposes.

1. I deposited $100 or so a few times and lost it 4-5 times when I first started playing poker. I started at $5 sit and gos. Once I got the hang of the game I never deposited again. As a pro I have never come close to being busto. I have always played with a very conservative bankroll and have treated my game very much like a business.
2. No trouble there. I have excellent credit and really nothing to worry about.
3. When ever it gets to be more than I need I simply wire it to my bank acct. With the excess I usally just have a huge party and hire a bunch of hookers and tell them to bring tons of blow.....c'mon you don't believe that did ya?
4. I played .25.50 limit holdem and 8 tabled on a computer I put on my credit card. I played a new site every day. Basically whichever one had the besxt bonus offer that day I was playing at. It usually wasn't too hard to make a $150 bonus by the end of the day and hopefully a $100 or more at the tables. By the end of the month I made $7-8k and was on my way. It was pretty scary and I was dead broke. But it was either try and bonus whore it or get a job sweeping floors until I got a better job. I figured since I was already pretty much broke I may as well go for the glory.

I just put a new one up yesterday! You are in luck!

pro for 4-5 years. did the limit thing which i resent too. just got into nl a year ago. 6max/hu mostly 5/10 but some bigger games when they're soft and smaller occasionally. went from party to ap to bodog to prima to ub, disaster follows me! It pains me, but im finally making the jump to ft or ps and getting the real pc setup (im still on the laptop i took around the world).

i do alright, but i havent been putting in the hours. spent a year or two travelling and partying too much. i got a friend visiting for the next two weeks. after that im gonna try to start putting in a lot more hands. i fantasize about playing 30-40hrs/week but you seem to be getting in 50-60? i feel like i see everyone posting how THEY play the least ammount of hands/week which is strange, is the stereotype (40/hrs week) just quiet about it? can that sort of life be balanced still?
to clarify, my questions are,

do you feel a sense of balance in your life?

and ft or ps?

This is awesome. and inspirational.

On another note, I has been spoilt watching (other site's) vids on HDTV via Xbox360 - any chance StoxPoker will ever reconsider their position on DRM?

EDIT: worth starting a thread on DRM yes/no or is this set in stone?

I feel like my life is balanced in the sense that since I really love playing poker that much of my time is spent doing so. That leaves me with limited time, however in that time I feel like I make the most of it.

I think that the overwhelming majority of poker pros are lazy. Imo mos should wake up and realize that there is no 100% guarnatee that poker will always be there for them. You never know what some crooked senator will do to poker or a bot could overtake the game. Who knows. I am going to make my money now while I know I can make it. That way if online poker blows up I can "retire" if I want. There are guys making boatloads of money who will one day hump some crappy job for 1% of what he used to make in poker if the day ever comes that he can't play poker anymore simply because he was too lazy or blew it all.

Poker Stars by a pretty big margin imo

Enjoy your posts and Blog. You and a fellow player(Daut44) prompted me to do rapid play online poker. Currently I'm at 22K hands playing 13 tables at a time playing .50/1.00 NL. Goal is to hit 16 tables which I think will be my max.
I'm doing ABC poker and very aware of position.
Only up .5ptbbs/100 but PokerEV tells me I should be winning 1.9ptbbs/100. There are pros and cons on how accurately PokerEV is but it's all we have for now so I'll go with it.
Congrads on your success,

I just look for tables with high players per flop and basically any table that doesn't have a ton of regulars at it. I also get on tons of lists and as they come up I see if I think it is worht joining or not. If I have a table or two that has become tough, then I most likley get on the new table when it pops up.

Hope this helps and don't ever forget that hard work = success and don't let anyone ever tell you otherwise. Good luck.

nvm you kinda answered the question
03-23-2008 , 05:16 AM
hey leather....was wondering what ur W$WSF was? I'm about 46.5% at 2/4NL but I see CTS and co. at like 50%+ (which is f#^$#ing nutz)and was wondering what you think about this and how to improve it further, or is it really just a matter of improving my hand reading?

It's just a mater of how aggro you are. CTS is in the 50s because he pounds every street and obviously people can not continue with the hand to showdown. People who play less aggressively postflop will have lower w$sf. I don't think this is something you should concern yourself with as it is purely stylistic. ALthough if your w$sf isn't at least in the mid 40s then you are definitely too passive and getting outplayed fat too often.

The best poker book you ever read?
03-24-2008 , 06:26 AM
hey leather

what was the moment for you where you thought "man i could make a living doing this"? @ what stakes and after how many hands and with how big a BR? or more confident were you when you started that you wouldn't have to abandon it?

also how do you know if you are a sure winner at a certain stake? ie separating running hot from a undeniable edge

thanks for sharing, and i think the spilling the bean video was the video i learn the most from. it inspired me think about my game and to get creative with it

Definitely Ed Miller's Small Stakes Holdem. I went from working a job to playing poker for a living within a few weeks after completing that book.
