Trump-

Tries to keep coal afloat
Reduced environmental protections
“The green new deal is ridiculous”

Also Trump-

“I’m an environmentalist”

dabs it pains me that you cause me to summon my inner fuluck but no coal and long term all electricity costs skyrocket and short there'd be a massive shortage

this is why i hate it when companies like tesla promote it as being more environmentally friendly, the electricity they use comes from coal

but big picture, what the working class dick van dykes gonna do when there no chimmeys to sweep or coal to mine

Hey man, you expressed your actual opinions, so you’re way ahead of fuluck

Here’s why I think you’re wrong-

I’m not suggesting immediately turning off all coal plants, just that actively trying to keep them alive when they can’t compete is dumb.

Solar is cheaper per kWh produced than coal.

Electric vehicles charged from electricity generated at a coal plant are still more efficient than an ICE vehicle. On top of that, we can produce cleaner electricity, so electric vehicles are only going to get cleaner, so while you might hate it, Tesla is correct.

As for the working man, economies change, job markets change, they’ll find something. 50% of the population used to work in agriculture, now it’s something like 5%..? Yet everyone found new jobs. It seems like a silly gamble to continue wrecking the environment just to keep the status quo .

solar can't be produced at night and we don't have the battery capacity or technology available to make it feasible/cost effective

saying solar is cheaper is not necessarily true, there's a wide spectrum of solar tech out there and it's highly location/weather dependent

solar will never carry the load until we build a whole lot more of these and china is the only country really doing it on a large scale

i'm all for solar, we're just not ready yet

Solar and wind combo with some storage and a baseline of nuclear or something would work just fine. Again, I’m not saying close all coal plants tomorrow, I’m saying transition to renewables. Also, if we invest more money and brainpower in these things we also increase the chance of new breakthroughs.

I like pumped hydro, I think it’s a good idea. Personally I think my island would be a perfect testing ground. We have a lot of coast line for wind turbines, we even have a company that wants to built them. Add a pump, few bits of 2x4 bish bash bosh we’re 100% clean.
