They didn't skate very well, which caused them to take a couple bad penalties. The initial penalty before Filpula got the high stick for the 5-3 that lead to a goal was a pretty soft call imo. On that power play goal Kronwall followed the action up to the top of the circle so when the puck went from the point down low he really hung Howard out to dry being way out of position allowing a 1-0 8 feet in front of the net. On SJ's 3rd goal it took a bounce and landed right on the SJ players stick 12 feet in front of the net so that was pretty unlucky.

I didn't see the final stats but I think Detroit out chanced them and out shot them. But it was a tight game, should be tight all series. Down 1-0 losing the first game on the road shouldn't be that big of a sweat, I obv didn't expect we'd sweep them, SJ is a good team it will be a tough series.

I used to flip the bird to the ref(refs used to often, if not always, wear yellow shirts.. and I didnt miss a Wizards game for 2 years straight) during Kansas City Wizards' soccer games and say,"pick a finger, yellow!" lol

if I was upset with a call..

I actually got banned from Arrowhead stadium for a year.. I dumped a beer on an apposing player after he had been ejected for punching one of our players and was exiting out the tunnel.. security took me to some cinder block room in the bowels of the stadium and questioned me like I was some terrorist

Whoa, that was a detailed account!!! I like it better when teams are well matched - so much more exciting than a blowout. Speaking of which, I need to blowdry my hair straight, but I'm just too tired. Maybe later.

Skates is meantt to be tight yo. Sometimes when a player blocks a shot in the foot they have to keep their skates on b/c if they take them off their foot will blow up and they won't be able to get their skate back on!

When he says they didn't skate well, he means lazy forechecking and not getting after it hard and skating aggressively. Hockey is far and away my favorite team sport and my team has been bad for a long time but, I'm a happy camper if my boys are skating. I'm constantly yelling at the tv.. "skate.. skate".

They are all obv skating.. if you get into the game, you'll see what we are talking about.

I wish I could contribute to Bender's historical thread, but I have no Paint skills. I never could draw.

I was an assistant coach at a college for one year, that's as far as it goes.

But, I can teach someone with a second grade reading level how to read the racing form in one afternoon.

It was pretty close the stat that usually correlates most with how a game is going is "quality scoring chances" which is obv a bit subjective; but even so is a better indicator than "shots on goal" imo. The last I saw during the game it was 11-8 Detroit which seemed about right to me. I'm not sure how it finished.
