I kind of hate Seth Meyers, like a lot, but when he did his John Kerry impression during a debate segment, the moderator asked something about flip-flopping and Meyers said "When I gave that pro-war speech, I was speaking to a pro-war crowd. When I gave the anti-war speech, I was speaking to an anti-war crowd. That's not flip-flopping, that's pandering, and I think the American people can tell the difference." He used just the right level of condescension as he built to the end and I thought it was top notch.

Anyway, I've been reminded of that while reading ever more about Harold Ford's nascent campaign.
