There's a lot of antisemitism in Shakespeare but Merchant of Venice certainly stands out. People will defend it saying that he was making sophisticated satire of anti-Semitic attitudes. Idk much about it but that seems unplausible. Also what Omar said about AIPAC was true. It's ****ing stupid to me that we can be mad about money in politics but have to carve out the Israeli lobby because there's racist tropes about Jews & money. It's especially rich coming from so many, "treat everyone the same I don't see race types."

i remember reading the merchant of venice in high school and i never thought of it as antisemetic because they didn't make it clear to me that shylock enforced his loan repayment that way because he's jewish. i mean, it's not crazy to imagine someone loaning a bunch of money and then hurting them if they don't pay it back. italians do that all the time.

hi, this is ScreaminAsian, and unfortunately today in omgomgomg, i made a few comments that some consider to be.. racist, and offensive. if i did offend you i deeply apologize from the bottom of my heart. what i was simply trying to do, was make a joke over the fact that, italians, generally, use mafia ties to enforce payments from loan sharks. it was simply a joke. and, the joke, got out of hand, because in this situation it was truth. people were offended. it doesn't matter what type of person is loaning money, whether it be white, jewish, italian... the important thing here, that we can learn from this is:

A: you shouldn't drink, and, do drugs, because you might end up in a situation that you regret, and

B: i have personally learned, that, when i address things, i should address them, in a much better way, in a specific way, as not to offend.. people. jewish people, white people, spanish, italian, whatever the case may be.
