I don't mind this:

White is definitely the right choice for most kitchens, imo. Especially if you aren't in a forever home and will need to appeal to, or at least not offend, future buyers. In a basement I'd be tempted to go white on white, even...

I couldn't get the link I really wanted to work...but ballpark=

Not super in love with back splash...but it has one thing I'm curious to hear opinions on: black stainless steel (dishwasher.) Next big thing, or the 2016 equivalent of an avocado coloured 70s fridge?

Chip does something that makes me gag at a rate of about once every four episodes. I don't share Joanne's girl-wood for shiplap. ...seems too rough and hard to clean.

See Q above re: black stainless.

Oops, got busy...just saw post about white in white being too sterile now.

I don't think super high end makes a lot of sense in a basement or in law set up. Just my $0.02.

Do you ever watch property brothers? A friend of mine was on http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2474008/plotsummary

Here's what she ended up with

I feel so lonely and only have 3 weeks ish before I have to go see the doctor. Not enough time to go in Asia imo.

I think I'll tell my doctor that I took the medication and I need another 7 weeks.

def going white Ikea cabinets, laminate counters, light-colour laminate floor, probably subway tile backsplash but def something basic, none of that fancy mosaic stuff.

IKEA cabinets are dandy. Just need to dress them up with some nice handles

This morning those same two Robins are sitting on the hydro wire and roof by my driveway, and when the cat that killed the Robin came out they screamed at it for 20 mins straight. Note: my other two cats had been out all morning and they weren't making any ruckus at all.

The Birds, it's happening.
i was trimming the hedges around my estate and without even realizing it, i knocked a robin's egg from its nest, and it cracked on the stone walkway. then i had to make the difficult decision to destroy the nest and remaining egg.

it reminded me of when i was in iraq and they made us shoot the children of this family we accidentally burned.

I at least feel like 7 years in a monogamous relationship should buy me a little slack.

Not sure what "Ikea cabinets" look like, but the rest sounds like smart choices.

Where does something like bucher-block fit in wrt to laminate in Canada? I think you said you're not gonna use/rent your basement, so it might be a middle ground to consider?

Don't want butcher block because I figure it'd just get used as an endless cutting board

Wait, isn't that the point?

Also, we can all agree that one deep and wide kitchen sink >>>> two mediocre sized ones >>>> that abomination w/ three
06-08-2016 , 08:10 PM
You don't want your kitchen counters all gouged and scratched up. Use a cutting board. Plus lots of maintenance to keep it in good shape
06-08-2016 , 08:15 PM
I've only lived with 2 or 3 sinks...so I don't know if I'd actually like 1 large...but man are they pretty.

The third sink is travesty, imo.

Greg, I think butcher block in your main kithen would probably be too much hassle to keep pretty, but in a second kitchen with attractive cutting boards left out for ease of use, it might be better than basic laminate, without the price of stone?

I'm a well known scamer on 2plus2. Ask Fran.
06-08-2016 , 08:56 PM
Double sink >>>>>>>>>>. You need something like these: big enough, undermount, front apron optional

06-08-2016 , 09:07 PM
Kristy's got undermount sink, but it's too small for that island. I also don't like the mini cabinets above the window.

There's no way I trust a tenant to oil and clean butcher's block and not hack it all up. I'm way to cheap to ever put in stone. Who am I trying to impress? biggerboat spent $6,000 on his granite counters in the kitchen. No thanks.
06-08-2016 , 09:08 PM
I like that you're on Houzz.
06-08-2016 , 09:09 PM
Also,"tenant" changes everything. I thought this was in your man cave.

Laminate is the only choice.
