Daz, can you help me move today and then give me a ride to the airport?
02-01-2016 , 08:55 AM

I have a question about chess. Why is white supposed to be easier? Isn't it kind of like being out of position in poker?
02-01-2016 , 10:40 AM
Yes. White has a slight advantage because white moves first.
02-01-2016 , 10:51 AM
If you think about tic tac toe, the person who goes first wins (unless they're brain dead). So I guess it's just like that, only more complex and less of an advantage.
02-01-2016 , 10:53 AM
I guess I don't understand that. Why isn't it a disadvantage because they're giving away information for their opponent to react to?

I thought tic tac toe was always a tie, lol.
02-01-2016 , 10:55 AM
Ok then, I guess I've only ever played brain dead people, because going first in my world is always a win.
02-01-2016 , 11:03 AM
You got me curious so I googled, apparently going first you should never lose, but you will tie a lot. So I'll say we're both right .

I think the point still stands though, going first is an advantage for the same reasons.
02-01-2016 , 11:09 AM
I think have may have got lucky here, because I think the example is even more correct than I imagined.

So going first is an advantage, but if you're both playing GTO, it should always be a tie.

Well, apparently the same could be true for chess, whatyaknow

In the future 'll be sure to read up first, then post, not post as I'm reading.
02-01-2016 , 12:03 PM
Oh, we're still discussing chess?
AFK a few more days
02-01-2016 , 12:05 PM
You're right, let's get back to talking about emotional labour. That's something we all enjoy.
