I mean, there are other series that do things like this, British touring cars do similar stuff, and their races are awesome. However, the races they have are much shorter and they have tyres that they can use hard all race etc etc. I think if you tried that in f1 the mercs would drs and kers past every other car in about 7 laps and then everything would be back to normal.

There would also be safety issues with the slowest cars being at the front off the start. It would be sweet to watch them get swamped, but I doubt the fia would want that.

I liked the idea at first blush. The safety issues are real for sure, but the mercs to get past ferrari who need to get past Williams would make for some exciting stuff. Much more so than now. The races are won in qualifying.

I believe in the WTCC they do 2 races and in the second race the order of the top 10 of the first race is reversed, that way you keep qualifying, qualifying is pretty cool imo
