The oddness is that I applied for my boss' job. He got promoted, but they made him hold onto his old position til filled--so he's got 2 full time jobs right now. And has for several months. They've been dragging this out already.

Ok, I will play ball. This is one of my favorite topics as a Libertarian Mormon, so first let me preface this by saying I don think that the govt has the authority to define marriage at all, marriage is a religious ceremony and allowing them to define it is as absurd as allowing them to define baptism. So I personally believe that there should be no such thing as a marriage license, I don't think that the marriage license my wife and I were forced to get by the Cook County, IL Govt is valid on principle. I believe that marriage is defined by your religion/church/values and no one can force you to believe otherwise. I do believe personally , as a Mormon, that Gay Marriage is hollow and without authority in the eyes of God, but that doesn't mean that I believe people shouldn't be able to engage in it if they choose, they have their own free agency. And it doesn't mean that I don't think they are still good and decent people, we just disagree on doctrinal points.

What I do believe should be allowed is for anyone to enter into a contract with any other individual to share burdens, assets, benefits, etc regardless of whether they are even having intimate relations with each other, same sex or not. So basically in short I believe the government has no business defining marriage and that really the govt should just be there to enforce a contract between two people who can call the contract whatever they want.

I say this, because I believe it is at the root of most LGBT discussions for most people right now, so I wanted to answer the question before it is posed

My real comment is to clarify, because most people believe Mormon Doctrine to be different than what I am about to state and because we as Mormons are often a big part of the discussion on the west coast, which is where a lot of the discussion began in recent years.

Note also, that this, what I am about to say,is essentially the Official Church stance on the subject and I find it perfect in its love and simplicity, and just because others may take actions that are different as individual members of the church, that doesn't necessarily mean they should be viewed as speaking for the church

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) shares the belief and understanding that individuals are born with same sex attraction, there is nothing wrong with them as people or spirits. The problem is pre-marital sex and because marriage is a sanctified sacrament reserved for the great powers of the creation of life and bringing of Heavenly Father's Children into this life as well as loving and nurturing them, marriage and it's sacred bonds are reserved for man and wife. So, it is because of this that homosexual acts are wrong; because they can only be done premaritally and premarital sex is the sin, the sin is not same sex attraction.

This can pose a serious challenge to those who have same sex attraction, this life is a test for all of us and our faithfulness to the commandments is tested many different ways. Each of us are given our own individual challenge but no one will be given more than they can withstand.

I love my gay friends and I respect them and the good they do for others around them. I think it is important to not let your sexual preference be the only thin that defines you, because when you are truly challenge or alone you may find your back to be weak, but it is not being attracted to the same sex that makes me love you or hate you. Your sexual preference isn't that important to me and it shouldn't be that important to anyone but you. You are so much more as a person.
