Not really, no. But after 10 years, 2LT's become Captains or Majors, and A1C's become Staff Sergeants or Tech Sergeants. And that's when it starts being a really big difference.

Last edited by Mayo; 05-20-2013 at 12:47 PM. Reason: 2LT also makes like 3x the pay of an A1C.

It's a dumb thing, but it really bugs me. I'm legitimately ****ing amazing at my job, and I've never gotten a single bit of official recognition, and that bothers me way more than it should.

I know nobody cares, but I wanted to vent somewhere.

do you basically have to keep your head down and work for 10 years and it's almost guaranteed?

This is more about domestic use of drones (privacy/warrants/private use) rather than military use .... which the government still probably doesn't publicly acknowledge

airmen first-class are not allowed to have strategies
05-20-2013 , 12:53 PM
you'll make more than any of them as a mercenary once you're discharged
05-20-2013 , 12:54 PM
can you serve a warrant with a drone?

that would expedite the process, imo

You mean promotions? Yeah, basically. Promotions are determined by seniority and how well you do on a test. But seniority is the big thing, and as long as you don't **** up, everyone except for the biggest ******s will eventually get promoted to Tech Sergeant (pay grade E-6), which is the minimum level you need to reach to retire. I'm good at tests, so I would easily make it to Master Sergeant (E-7) if I stayed in. But promotions to E-8 and E-9 add in a subjective element, and those promotions are very political.

EDIT: You'll note that NOWHERE did I mention "be good at your job" or "be respected as a leader" or "not be hated by everyone you work with" on the qualifications for promotion up to Master Sergeant. That's because that's literally just not a part of it.

I don't know how it works for officers, exactly, but I do know that promotions through Captain (pay grade O-3) are 100% automatic unless you **** up.

Drones are great. There I said it.
05-20-2013 , 12:58 PM
prediction: the use of domestic drones will increase (relatively) gradually until law enforecment and govt can do whatever the **** they want. the entirety of the political/law enforcement apparatus gives less than zero ****s about any privacy related concerns

Addendum: Until there's a Supreme Court ruling on it sometime in the future that will likely reign it back from the lawforce/political encroachment on the 4th Amendment (handshake)

Hey, don't hate on General Dynamics. GD are the one goddamn company that clearly labels all their ****, and as someone who is essentially a professional inventory-er of military equipment, this is invaluable.

To be fair the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime/Terrorism/Homeland Security & Investigations does have quite a few people testifying who are critical of drone tactics ... doubt it will matter tho.

Also GD Toughbooks are the greatest computers ever.
