My mate got married at age 22, I told him it was a stupid idea but he did it anyway. Now, tonight at the pub, he has just told me that his wife is pregnant. He wants me, as his best friend, to be be 'heavily involved' in the whole thing. I think it's a terrible idea and I just want to GTF away. What am I supposed to do?

He's been my mate since kindergaten though. We haven't had much in common since age 16, but I would still feel like a scumbag if I just completely blew him off now.

I dunno, being mates for 10+ years probably has some long standing impact. I went to university and he didn't, which is why we have little in common anymore. But I still feel feel obligated to support him.

ya but is this like he genuinely wants you to be involved in his kid's life because he thinks you'll be a positive role model

or is he just doing it in the expectation that you'll spend money on the kid and babysit when he wants to go out and pretend he's young still
