If anything the American legal system is known for efficiency.

Well, I was hoping to do it amicably without attorneys & hearings & flying to Florida & all that stuff.

I overestimated her ability to be a useful member of society.

forget jmurd's problems, listen to what happened to me in the last hour:

Go to gym. Leave gym. It's snowing! Walk home in coat and gym shorts. Discover I have left keys at the gym. Sigh in cold dejection. Walk back to gym. Get keys. Leave gym. Attempt to hustle across street to make light. Slip and fall on ass and head. Dazed. Cars honk. Onlookers onlook. My phone has sprang from my pocket! Look around for phone. Find phone. Scramble up and hurry off street after holding up traffic for close to 15 seconds. Walk home bruised, covered in snow and sorely demoralized. In gym shorts. Pretty awesome hour of life, guys.

jk jmurd I hope it all works out, at least since you're a lawyer you can have your **** together for the both of you if you have to. Have no idea what I would do in a situation like that. And at least you're happy

And also you're killing it this page, The Brickie

Yeah, my life is great, & I really shouldn't complain about petty stuff. I learned a lot of valuable lessons from the whole experience, & am obviously still learning some now.

Whatever happens with it, me & the fiancee are going to live happily ever after. Being a dad will be a bit cray, & the baby tangentially named after my SN will be a new experience, but I am in an amazing place in my life. Finally.

As for your story...I've been hit by a car on a crosswalk & gone 6 feet in the air, & I've fallen on ice & smacked the back of my head when visiting a certain Panda in Cincy, but never done both at same time.

(tl;dr)

My ex is pretty much literally the most useless person in the world. She broke up with me (best thing she ever did for me by far), in March 2010. I have been trying to get divorced since pretty much July 2010.

We have no children, and no contested issues. I gave her about 2/3 of the $$$ when I left so she could deal with the house payments & stuff since she pretty much didn't work while we were together & I was working 48 hours a week to pay her bills.

I sent her divorce papers for the first time in the Summer of 2011. She is the Florida resident, so she would be the Petitioner. She never bothered signing or filing them. After about 9 months she said that she read them & didn't like what something said about the person who was living in the house being responsible for repairs.

Whatever. I re-did the papers without including anything about the house to let that just be covered by applicable property law. She finally signs them a few months later, & they get turned in to the court in August 2012. All she needs to do is call & set up a hearing. It takes her about 2 months before finally calling & determining that we need to submit financial affidavits before we can get a hearing.

Whatever. I turned in my affidavit within a week (early October). She finally turned hers in January 8th. Now she claims she needs to complete more forms before she can get a hearing date in 10 days.

I don't know whether she's just full-****** & that's why this is taking forever, she's trying to hang on for some dumbazz reason, or whether she somehow knows I plan on getting married this April.

Anyway, I can't trust her to do anything, and since she's the petitioner I can't set up hearings & crap myself without petitioning the court & that could take months.

So I'm considering paying a bunch of $$$ to try to get this done in Nevada in time. Apparently they have quick divorces in Nevada, but it will be close, no guarantee it would work, & would easily cost 4 figures.

Regardless we're going to have the wedding, it just won't be our official wedding day if I'm still married obviously, and that would suck, because it's going to be really badazz marrying someone who's amazing & actually cares about me & such. Plus the baby is coming in June & we'd prefer to be married before he's born, even if that's old-fashioned.

Anyway, sorry for venting, & it's cool if you don't read it, I still y'all.
This is super ****ty and I'm sorry she's being such a ****.

Also this is so incredibly true. It really, really is.
