Obviously **** is still going to happen but policies to reduce the statistical incidence of **** seems like a no brainer.

All of the calls to ban certain types of weapons - but not others that are just as deadly or in some cases more deadly - are just complete crap.
I agree.

More annoying truths about the US... because of our wealth inequality, the drug war and its related violence... we have a murder rate well above most civilized countries. Even when you compare percapita murder rates without guns we are well ahead of most other countries.

A certain percentage of our country is ok with murder. Sad but true.

These mass shootings are already statistical oddities. The rifles they want to ban are used in fewer murders than bare hands, baseball bats and knives.

End the drug war and pump all of that money into improving society and the US becomes much less violent.

But we can't do that because omg socialism/think of the children on one side and killing machines/think of the children on the other side.

I'm aware how infrequently mass school shooting happen but there's a drip, drip, drip that really adds up of other less notable shootings that don't garner the attention so it's useful as a talking point. In the week after the SHES shooting there were well over 100 gun deaths. I agree with you on inequality & the "drug war", but there's things that are politically actionable and things that aren't. Just because I can't affect some issues doesn't mean I'll keep quiet about everything.

The problem is that after these rare mass shootings they start talking about doing things that will never make a difference.... like banning weapons that weren't even used in the shootings. After Va Tech they started talking about banning "Assault" rifles again and he used handguns ffs.

Feinstein is already talking about bringing back the "Assault" Weapons Ban... which did pretty much jack **** and would not have prevented SHES. It "bans" weapons based on a list of style features that don't have **** to do with how deadly they are.

Once they start talking about bans/confiscations there is a large enough percentage of the US that is just never going to let that happen... especially with recent Supreme Court rulings that say they cannot do it anyways.

Its a complicated issue (like drugs) and forced prohibition is never going to stop complicated issues. We might as well get on with trying to work on the societal issues that cause most of this crap.

Didn't some guy set a fire then gun down the firefighters responding today? You should tell their families is was a statistical oddity and guns aren't the problem.
12-24-2012 , 03:49 PM
You're right, if only they had slapped a nationwide ban on guns down yesterday nothing like that would have happened ever again

Exactly why I think gun owners/activists should be involved.

I'm all about doing something about mental healthcare in the USA. I think what Regan started with that reduction in care has really hurt this nation. I only started talking about the gun issue specifically with friends/family/on here to push back against the lunacy of the NRA.

Yes... that is exactly what I said. Except not that at all. It would be like using a situation where somebody used a handgun to justify banning scary rifles but doing nothing about the handgun... which is what they do.

Didn't a crap ton of gang violence happen this year (thousands of dead) that people don't care about and dwarfs any of this stuff?

The reality is that the guns aren't going anywhere. We have way too many of them in this country and they are way too easy to make and import.

On a lighter note there's a volcano going off in South America. Delayed fuse apocalypse incoming
12-24-2012 , 03:55 PM
Ban volcanoes
12-24-2012 , 03:56 PM
Also vinegar and baking soda
12-24-2012 , 03:56 PM
We can't ban volcanoes... we just need tighter volcano control and screening

Live video feed just showed a mugshot of the shooter (who killed his 92 year old grandmother and served 18 years in jail)... looks like Manson... his sister lived there and is missing.

If you knew someone that was a victim of volcano attacks you wouldn't be spouting this nonsense

How can we even talk about gun violence in the US when this type of thing is going on in Canada?

MAPLE SYRUP HEIST

Thank god they are being brought to justice.

Asked about the guns used in the incident, Pickering said he was not clear which weapons, or how many, had been used by Spengler.

"Spengler was a convicted felon so he's not allowed to possess weapons," said Pickering. "I don't know where those weapons came from but we're certainly going to find out."

Who is going to pay for all these volcanoes? What if the volcanoes decide to attack the kids instead of protect them?
