But from your perspective is that a corporate thing for some reason? i.e. IT guy: "Sir this is absolutely ridiculous... we need to hash these PWs and not have them in plaintext. It will take 5 hours to do the upgrade" and bossman is like "Sorry bub ain't happenin' $$$$$$$$$$"

Or are IT people (or whatever field these people would be) really that dumb? They can't possibly be. No plaintext passwords is rule a like #0000000.0000000001 of data security...

I have pretty much daily arguments with developers about the most basic things (error handling, security, data validation, etc).

I am sure there are smaller shops where spending a little money and time is an issue, but really it is just a combination of stupidity and laziness.

Or the stupid "logic" of "Well, if we don't let them into the database then the encryption is just extra work".
