Even though occasionally they have an informative piece, most articles I find annoyingly biased or one-dimensional.

A couple of years ago there was a ******ed article about how bad it was that the majority of academics in america had a leftish political orientation. They blamed it on selective hiring, instead of thinking about the possibility that perhaps academics were upset about how the Bush administration tried to suppress research activity in areas which could demonstrate that the policies were unsound or which could annoy the evangelical right wing. Never mind that a much simpler explanation was that the very skills that make a good academic are also the ones that makes one disapprove of certain political standpoints.

At first I thought this was a meme.

Twitty linked an article the other day that provided an alternate possibility regarding how the brains of liberals differ from the brains of conservatives.

Economist has a very cursory understanding of U.S. politics, but pretends that they know the subject better than anyone else. It's very annoying to me, and I've basically stopped reading it.

If that's your criterion, I take it you stay out of the politics forum?

I also stopped reading "Cooks Illustrated" because an editorial denied global warming.

    Cliffs:

liberals could be expected to more readily accept new social, scientific or religious ideas.

the tendency of conservatives to block distracting information could be a good thing depending on the situation

political orientation, occurs along a spectrum, and positions on specific issues, such as taxes, are influenced by many factors, including education and wealth.

Apparently he only reads one thread there, where apparently all the posters seem intelligent and knowledgeable. I don't have a clue what it could possibly be.

Mostly. I read/post in the thread about the GOP nomination. They have pretty good discussion in there, and it's mostly a sort of politard OMG making fun of the ridiculousness of the GOP field.

Besides, they mostly spend their time debating a bunch of books that I have no interest in ever reading and saying things like "the true liberty of ideal freedom is inarguably the watchword of the patriotic synthesis" in that abstract pompous academic tone that I absolutely hate.

If patriotic synthesis isn't The Star Spangled Banner played on keytar, I don't know what it is.

I lost my useless free $25 thing. I came in second, I think. But I'm pursuing a strategy of claiming to have won on the Facebook page and seeing if anyone actually checks the math.

People in Kentucky don't really like to do math if it can be helped.

Oh it's way busier cuz the unit I work on has expanded, but overall pretty good!
