Though, I am glad you have some recourse due to the regulations that are in place.
The terms of our employment were not reached between the employer and I, they defaulted to the government's terms when they hired me and made me fill out a W-4 and go on the payroll and pay taxes.
If we would have had an arrangement like they have with another employee where he is not on the payroll and doesn't pay any taxes, we would have established the terms between us, and things would not have come to this imo. But that was not the case, they defaulted to the government's terms and did not offer me the choice of defining the terms with them, and in firing me they broke the terms of the employment that we were on.
I much rather would have not been paying any taxes, fwiw.
