Alright so im here so debate on if yes or no playing higher stakes for some players make you a better player !

Im a normal casual poker player who has been playing low stakes online and live ( 1-2 ) and ( 2-5 ) for the past six years. I was able to make some decent money for someone who plays 20hrs a week avg, but 2016 was terrible for me ... was it a bad run or just me getting bored ? so this is what i did : i decided to go higher in stakes and take a chance ( live ) not online . So now im playing 5/10 and my game has just been on point for the past 7 months , having great results and making decent money ! Have u guys ever experience this ? getting bored cause the stakes where to low and now jumping in bigger ones and playing alot better ? is this bad or just normal ?

thanks guys ! btw im new here hahaha dont go to harsh

Congrats ..you finally moved up to where they respect your raises

All jokes aside, this is probably just a case of run good.

I know what you mean.

I'm not sure if I play better when more money is involved, but I don't call "because it's only $100 or $200," so maybe I make fewer mistakes.

To be fair though when you're overrolled for stakes it's easy to play terrible because lolfolding to a $65 3bet

Honestly, I notice this all the time. I definitely believe it's a real effect. I travel a lot, and as a result have to change stakes quite frequently. I've found that I usually have to recalibrate to a particular stake (and even region), but I think there is a very big potential for me to play a bit leaky when dropping down in stakes.

I think it's a combination of factors. Hand reading changes between stakes, repping things looks different at different stakes, and yes, I think boredom/lack of pressure definitely impacts your ability to make the strongest decisions in a particular spot. I believe I play better at higher stakes, no question.

Tough to say in your case. I've always found the perfect amount of fear is beneficial. Too low and you cant take it seriously, too high and you're scared money. I used to play every table I could from 2/4 to 10/20. I had to stop though because I found it impossible not to spew at 2/4. The decisions just felt too irrelevant.

If you can beat 2/5 online, you can crush 5/10 live. I'm pretty confident even 200nl winners can beat live 5/10 at a good rate

Also, I remember when I took shots at higher games I would play a more TAG style (less variance) instead of my usual loose style. Mostly because I was underrolled but yeah
