I played with Villain maybe 2 or 3 times not for many hours. Actually sessions before he stacked off too light when I remember right (250bb 3bet/jam AQs vs spot). But this was I think months ago. Didn't recognize much aggression postflop by him. Somehow the typical MTT player. Solid game but leaks postflop and sometimes going crazy preflop.

I know he is a MTT Regular that binked a PCA or EPT event. And I heard he is transitioning to CG online. Anyway he should be a good player.

I am a regular on these stakes. Just sat down.
It's a pretty regish table. 1k effective.

Me BU Ad7d raise fi 25, he defends BB.
9d9h6s
He checks I cbet 20, he c/r 75, I (snap)call

I think so far so standard. On this board texture he should c/r a ton like overcards, gutters, straightdraws, backdoors and 6x+. I have bdfd and bdsd.

(205) turn 3s he checks
I bet 135

I guess he has a lot of giveups here that still have equity against my holding.
I don't like my sizing here as he has such a weak range that is pretty inelastic to any betsize. I think 80-90 or even smaller should be fine.

He calls.

Actually pretty confusing c/c. I have no clue what this could be. 88/77? 6x? Good AsXs? 8s9s?

(475) river 5h
I bet 350.

His turn c/c confuses me so much as I expect a good player barreling a lot of turns with pairs, trips, fds and 78.

I am not sure which hands I bet on the turn. I guess all gutters, A highs, weak pairs and Q9+. Checking back 9x, 78, gutters with fd.

I don't think I have sd value after his c/c and on this run-out and with the 7 in my hand it's a good hand to bluff I guess. I am not really bottom of my range as there a few of gutters miss as well.

Given that villain has one combo 78 I probably should just shove River and don't joke around with 350.

As I said before c/r flop c/c turn doesn't make much sense to me given the position and stack sizes and especially on this texture. I don't have that in my repertoire (there are other paired boards where I do it). E.g. 966r with 9x is a hole different story.

I can't check back 100% of my range here (can I?). But probably a big chunk of it to bluffcatch or bluffshove rivers as I his range is super weak.

Flops fine and standard. You can and should check some non 0 %
Turn should be smaller mostly if you want to just bet for protection to fold his air
River your sizing sucks if your gonna bluff i think ai is the size you wanna go with

I would not make this assumption about any live players until I've seen them do it.

You are right. But I thought villain is more of an online player.
He is a young grinder that plays PCA or similar events with 5k+ buyins and is now playing mostly online cash besides MTTs. He is not a regular in the local Cashgame. So my expectation was that he has at least minor experience with solvers or knows at least how to balance his range.
I gave him credit 5T blind defend spot vs reg

In general you are right. If he would be an unknown I would have made a weak laidown on the flop until I see some showdowns.

I actually really like a flop check with A high on a paired board since you are never getting better to fold and you should be c betting your air almost always. Since you got to the river, either give up or over bet.

Given the position I like cbetting 30-40% here. If my default cbet size is 50%+ I prefer a check as well. In general I size smaller the wider the ranges are so I can cbet more. If there is a FD on the board I prefer a check back as well, especially if I have the bdfd.

Asked a friend to put this spot in pio. Interestingly Ad7d is a fold on the flop, probably because I block draws.
Turn is a check back most of time. Most high equity hands like straightdraws+FD should be a bet.

So this is the the equilibrium. The tighter his c/r is the more I should check back I guess.

Based on some of the browsing I have done in the limit holdem forum recently I would say they are even checking this exact hand on this board on the flop.

Reason being is they're expecting to get c/r a lot but they have so much showdown value it's better to realize some fraction of your equity by seeing one more street than it is to pay 2 more bets not to fold.

I would think similar logice would apply here if you're expecting to get c/r.

Would say it is probably better to cbet depending on villain.
