Hey guys. I have a question I wasn't too sure about and was hoping to get some insight from you all.

Say we're in a soft $5/10 live NLH game. Two fish limp, and a bad reg button raises with what we know is a very wide range. We're in the SB with AQ. Is it better to 3bet and steal/get heads up with the button, or is it better to call and play a single-raised pot multiway with a strong top-pair type making hand with the fish in the pot?

Also, does the answer depend on how the button reacts to our raise? For example, if he's going to fold a ton to our 3bet, what action is best? If the button is going to continue a lot against our 3bet, what action is best?

Pretty straightforward 3b spot here to like 4x his open

If he folds a lot, we still want to 3bet.

3 betting AQ as my standard play (especially since bad players love to limp/call 3b with AJ KQ etc)

also consider 5b ripping AQo some non-zero % of the time to a 4b from BTN at 100bb stack sizes.

depends on how often button goes nuts. against players who never 4b worse than their GII range of QQ, AK we should probably never do this. against ppl who 4b all sorts of weird **** in position when they should probably call with it then we can do this at a relatively high freq (50%?)

in most if not all games I'm playing a 3bet or fold strategy from the SB. In some games I can see it making sense to have calls but personally i don't do it.

This thread basically already has everything you need to answer this question. apricotjello added a some great and accurate extra info. I understand your desire to keep the fish in the pot with a dominating hand but being oop just makes everything so much ****ing harder that we pretty much always just wanna 3b here. Our sizing is very dependant on villians open sizing and eff stack size.

Unless it’s like UTG + 1 vs BB and everyone else folded to you. Which is rare. Even then 3! Pre is usually fine
