Lebron is no longer the best player. He is top 3 though. I have zero salt about him leaving Cleveland (this time). We won a ****ing championship! I donít expect many to understand what it means to be a die hard Cleveland sports fan and winning a ship. I donít feel like we ever need to win another one in any sport during my lifetime. Iím all set.

Imo, there is only one other player who has a legit argument for tops in the league and he is playing against Leonard right now.

There are a few tiers (in order for top 2 tiers then random order in 3 and 4)

1: Kawhi Giannis Lebron (gets the benefit of the doubt this year)

Decent gap

2: Curry Harden Durant Jokic embiid

HUGE GAP

3: George, Davis, Lillard

small gap
4: kyrie kemba jrue cj westbrook etc

Sup, miami!

Both of your listed tier 1 dudes have proved me right since you posted. Kawhi is a Pippen, not a Jordan, and Giannis has all the potential in the world but can't shoot yet and hasn't even come close to achieving King status in the playoffs.

I'll start a team (for one year) in this order:

1. King
2. KD
3. Steph
4. Giannis
5. Beard

Very, very happy for all those from Cleveland that Lebron came back and did the impossible.

Spoiler:

Cheers

And youíve given so much value already man, and not just in poker, actually probably very little poker value (to me), I gain much more insight on life and experiences than poker from Sessions. Donít get me wrong I love the poker, but there is so much more here.

Thanks for the content as always, I tried to mentally skip over any spoilers (I think Iím in February) but hopefully youíre leveling up soon, but most importantly staying in the game.

Thanks, man. You are at the 3rd and 4th grade girls youth basketball playoffs part of the pod? So far, that's the pinnacle of the pod (at least that's what people tell me). Thanks for the support and I think you are going to like the private online community plenty (def worth the change you find in the car imo--podcast aside). It's all people like you (and me) in there.

Here is to golfing one day together...

Cheers!

Thanks, Ranma. I enjoyed "Sean Snyder III" quite a bit when I listened to it as well. No idea why we thought it was a dud when we recorded it.

Also, thanks for the eduction--sincerely. I'm cool with everyone...

Glad to have learned to just drop "identify". That makes sense. Please PM shirt size and shipping address.

I'm starting to run into this problem. Some people want to reciprocate but don't want the recurring baby charges. I totally get that. I could see myself being like that.

Having said that, I have no idea what to do about it.

Soon the pod will be behind a paywall (said baby monthly charges) and because of that, I'm in the process of refunding the people that already PayPal'd, and I don't want to accept other forms of donation (outside of Patreon) moving forward. It would just feel too gross if someone donated money and then couldn't listen to the pod in a month or whatever.

Unfortunately I think it's just gonna be those who want to listen need to do the Patreon. Maybe I'll think of something else though.

Regardless, all good.

That was easy. I'll be back in a week to reply to any other @DGAF posts.

@dgaf - As soon as you posted the patreon info I was happy to donate.

I never liked reddit, so when the discussion moved there that was disappointing. But I don’t really care about posting, so no big.

But if the pod is harder to access, the Patreon sub from me will most likely stop.

Sounds like you’re good with that though, I just wanted to give the heads up. I’m just too old to jump through hoops for a pod.

Maybe instead of just patreon, also charge 99c for each new pod? I’d rather do that than see the pod moved off apple podcasts app.

Most pods make money off ads, have you considered taking your metrics and reaching out to Reds burritos, those energy drinks, etc to see if you could get paid spots?

That's a shame. I'm one of the people who bought beers and would do again in the future but don't want the recurring charge.

@DGAF how do you hope to grow the audience if the podcast is behind a pay wall?

Folding with your left hand to balance out your muscles killed me GL!

i'm not sure why you want to refund us on paypal when you can't access the money
the idea was for you to have the money, not for it to cost you money

Now if it's behind the paywall i want access

Re: 2k- a poker story (wtmfl;dr obv)

@DGAF

I definitely fall into the category of ďnot wanting micro auto-transactions on my ccĒ and if the podcast goes behind a paywall I would fall victim to inertia and probably just not act and therefore not listen. This is definitely not what you want as I know for a fact I am not alone. Iíve left reviews, bought pokerrags, offered a WSOP stake and volunteered to provide some guest content so I am prepared to reciprocate the shiznit out of this joint. But a paywall will stop all growth of your listener base. Just look at all the massively successful podcasts that resisted the urge to go paywall for so very long while they continued to grow their audience. They did that for a reason.

My suggestion is to continue patreon and add some additional ways to donate... specifically a bitcoin address. If you put up a crypto address I will donate one years worth of a patreon subscription as soon as I am aware of it. So thereís a $50 incentive to add another option.

This is just my opinion and I am not a podcast expert, so feel free to ignore the suggestion. But I am certain I am right about what will happen to your listener base. Iím a fan and will continue to reciprocate unless I have to engage ďthe ManĒ via credit cards, autopays, and paywalls. I would have never found you if it wasnít free to start.

Thanks for the post. I understand where you are coming from on this--and I know you have not enjoyed the tone of the "nit" discussion at all. That is totally fair.

Few notes:

1. reddit is confusing to me and will take time for me to get used to. However, the discussion over there is already incredible. It's this thread without the trolls/the all star game of this thread in the making imo.

2. There will still be discussion here, I'm just not engaging the same way (I'm only posting twice this week because you and other posters I respect had feedback I wanted to respond to promptly).

3. "Nits" have taken advantage of me my whole life. I didn't even realize this until 2 years ago. I am therefore overly sensitive to them (people who take more than they give) as I try to change and be smarter on this front moving forward. I have admittedly been very combative and frustrated lately, but soon this topic just goes away almost completely imo. In fact, it almost has already. FWTW.

4. The overwhelming consensus itt was that I go the Patreon route to monetize my content. I resisted it. I went a PayPal route instead and got burned (it cost me about $400). So I caved and listened to the majority of people who basically said, "Don't be so hard-headed, just get on Patreon."

A lot of those who pushed me to go the Patreon route and said they would snap sign up have ghosted. And now the voice of this thread is that I am being short-sighted and will lose listeners due to my using Patreon...

So basically I can't win/I will never make everyone happy.

While I understand people's reluctance to have a small monthly payment (it's mostly irrational/OCD reasoning imo--but I totally get it/I could see myself being this way), it is the route I have settled on for now.

And...

It is actually really good for someone with a horrible money management history.

5. I am open to additional/different ways of monetizing/selling the pod in the future, but I also have zero time to figure it out right now. I don't even have enough time to sleep these days. My life is pretty much ALL grind 24/7.

6. I don't think the pod will be hard to access at all for Patrons.

Thanks again for your post. No hard feelings if the pod becomes not worth it.

*I was hoping Patreon would be partly payback for 7 years of pouring my blood, sweat and tears into my content for free, and partly payment forward for future pouring of blood, sweat and tears into content. I realize now though that was naive/overly idealistic of me to think that way.

So now I gotta just charge a little, try to provide as much value as possible, and then see what happens.

With all due respect, just as you think it's a shame for me to take my pod behind a paywall/a recurring charge of $4.22 a month, I think it's a shame that people who have gotten a ton (entertainment, wisdom, whatever) from my content for years won't be flexible and just sign up in order to continue doing so.

I get it on your guys end- I do. I just really hope you guys get it on my end too.

I will have over 100 episodes out there for free. If people listen to that many and are still sure if they want to continue, IDK what to say really.

Also, I'm keeping this thread alive--> thousands of posts for people to check out and see if it's their flavor.

---

Thanks again for buying the beers. While I have refunded all the PayPal money for the pod (money that got frozen and therefore caused me to go the Patreon route), I did not refund the few people who have bought me beers on my blog site. That was tied to my writing efforts over the years (and it probably totaled < $100). If you feel a refund is in order though given that I'm going the way of Patreon, please pm me your details and I'll refund the beers.

Because it's the right thing to do IMO...

I went the PayPal route but didn't do my research and got burned--but that's on me. When I pivoted to Patreon I had to refund all the PayPal pod donations (eve though they are frozen)--and I have. No way I could have it any other way. I've made peace with the idea that I will just always be the opposite of shady/unfair and that might keep my poor forever. Oh well.

I'm just a goddamn idealistic fool until the end.

Thanks, man.

Thanks for the post and the prior support. I also will have zero hard feelings for you moving forward.

One pretty important thing of note is that my content is not some long-term plan to take over the world. My situation doesn't allow that (even if I wanted to try to become the next Joe Rogan or Howard Stern or whatever). I'm in a DIRE financial situation. I'm trying to fill my gas tank, put food in my kids' mouths and keep a roof over their heads, maybe not be homeless myself someday soon...

I need to either get some reciprocation from the 500 people who already listen to my pod religiously (and it's A LOT of content--I already exhausted all the room for storage again this month on Libsyn--and I pay for max storage) or I need to hang it up and do something more financially productive with the 40+ hours per week I currently put into my content.

That's just where I'm at.

Thanks again and GL always.

---

OK, this time for real I'll be back in a week.

I absolutely get it on your end and in no way at all do I want a refund! I wrote that earlier post a bit hastily and can see now it doesn't really come across how I wanted it to. Good luck man.
