Re: 2k- a poker story (wtmfl;dr obv)

Yeah I assume on kym lims as i was zipping myself into my hoodie trying to disappear from the world as I folded every hand except the one where I felt compelled to bluff off 10k

At least i hope that was the only one. I'd like to think I mentioned that her IG is entertaining to me and she asked my permission before recording and posting that and that I just dont remember since I was drunk.

I lost at literally everything I played that day before and during the bender. Ran face melting hot again yesterday playing mix and am now small winner for the trip. Viva Las vegas.

Re: 2k- a poker story (wtmfl;dr obv)

aria wouldnt let you start a game shorthanded, you needed to have like 8 people.

so some pros gamed this system by showing up with a full private game, they stuff the list with fake names and friends etc, they bribe the floor, they play for however many hours, and then they all quit together.

fairly sure I've never been in a casino that doesn't function like this for high stakes (to some degree -- some are worse/more predatory then others).
Not defending it by any means, simply stating that this behavior isn't exclusive to Aria

Yeah certainly wasn't what I was hoping for. Still had fun being a trainwreck even if the bender took a turn for the worse at the end.

Thought I had to come back today for a 4pm dentist appointment. Called to say I'd be about 30 minutes late at 3pm only to discover the appointment is actually on Wednesday. Oops. Would have liked to have met up with DGAF last night when he asked me to come out and just got invited out tonight. Would've happily done so if I'd have known I could stay another day or two.

Woke up to new Sessions episodes. Today’s side hustle grind is going to be a little easier.

Is there another episode dropping soon? We didnít get any actual poker content in the first two episodes this week! They were still great but I need to hear about the quest to save the princess.

Nice to know. Check out the movie 'Malice' if you haven't seen it. Epic.

Edit: It at least it was epic when I saw it...

I'm mid-30s and I have a lot of good friends. None of us are shooting an angle for personal gain, that's for sure. But I have them because I chose to stay in the metro area I grew up in, as did many of them. Making friends as an adult is very difficult and I don't try to. Frankly, I'd rather see my existing friends even more than make new ones.

This was largely a conscious choice by me. Fulfillment generally comes from strong relationships and meaningful activity. And many olds really regret losing touch with friends. Being a data guy, I just took the data-driven route of avoiding those regrets and trying to maintain my childhood/adolescent friendships. I believe this has made me a much happier person.

I've played thousands of hours of live poker, mainly in one location. I have never made a friend there nor do I intend to. It's not the place for that imo.
Nice post. I've played 10s of thousands of hours and have a lot of acquaintances but very few real friends (the ones I have though are gold imo). Totally agree it's not the place to meet friends in general.

2. I love the live metagame talk. I feel I am excellent at that as well. Selling a bluff physically/facially/bet-sizingly, acting like I'm not paying attention when I am, etc. You just don't here this discussed elsewhere and I questioned if I am really adding to my winrate by trying to do these things. Your comments make me believe I am.

3. More recaps of the action would be cool. Sometimes, the story gets to the turn/river and I can't recall what the hell happened in the hand up to that point.

4. It's solid as hell man. It's realllllllllly hard to keep my attention. I quit GoT after 30 minutes, and no, I don't ****ing care how good it gets. But I am always up for listening to the pod and find it very entertaining. It takes some effort too because, believe it or not, my wife and daughter don't find it as compelling, and I spend everyday with them because I work from home.

Daughter is crying, peace, keep it up, you're killing it.
Your feedback is in my head as I pod these days. Much appreciated.

Playing optimally is really, really boring. Why bother (if you don't have to)? Variance gonna cloud everything anyways.

Great post.

This just in: People that actually have money don't go play poker to make money. They go for the escape, the camaraderie, the lol competition, the gamble, the drinks, the R rated conversation, etc.

@dgaf

excellent points on looking/acting dumb at the poker table

and the science of not stepping on rec players throats to the point where they stop having fun but stepping on the throats of nits/pros who are bad for the game to make them hopefully leave

i wish more people understood this stuff

Straddle gear--especially Straddle? on stuff--brings smiles everywhere ime. I wore one of the shirts to a bar one time and the waitress (who knew nothing about poker) was all over it. No lie. I've also heard they do very well at strip clubs.

I used to wear the Straddle? shirt to a poker table and my friend would wear a Straddle. shirt. That **** was fun as hell and got the game juiced up always.

I havenít been back to Vegas for 2.5 years but always strongly felt that the 10/20 at the B was filled with colluders. Obviously itís possible that none of the guys who played in those games are even around anymore. Small sample size at the B as the vast majority of my hours in Vegas are at the V and Aria.

Interesting. I rarely see it, but nothing is shocking to me when it comes to poker pros. HMU when you come back and we will start a game somewhere awesome...

And while that's likely a good goal for your other pod and most pods in general, Sessions is a first person account and many of the listeners can relate to being on light sleep after a long session or having to take care of kids or whatnot. Personally, I don't mind. That said, yeah, I would limit the 3 parters lol.
I both took all your feedback to heart and did a 3-parter the next time out lol. I just had a **** ton of lead up, which people say they like best. Hope that makes sense. Thanks again, man.
