Re: 2k- a poker story (wtmfl;dr obv)

Some Sessions content:

1. I listen on Podcast Addict, which is a great app, apart from the fact that you can only read, not write, reviews. Lame. I am trying to find another avenue, but I'm not an iTunes guy. I'll figure something out.

2. I love the live metagame talk. I feel I am excellent at that as well. Selling a bluff physically/facially/bet-sizingly, acting like I'm not paying attention when I am, etc. You just don't here this discussed elsewhere and I questioned if I am really adding to my winrate by trying to do these things. Your comments make me believe I am.

3. More recaps of the action would be cool. Sometimes, the story gets to the turn/river and I can't recall what the hell happened in the hand up to that point.

4. It's solid as hell man. It's realllllllllly hard to keep my attention. I quit GoT after 30 minutes, and no, I don't ****ing care how good it gets. But I am always up for listening to the pod and find it very entertaining. It takes some effort too because, believe it or not, my wife and daughter don't find it as compelling, and I spend everyday with them because I work from home.

Daughter is crying, peace, keep it up, you're killing it.

Not irrelevant for the core question of tilt/handling variance:

Medding really helps with this imo.

I've finally reached the pinnacle I think. I got it in on the turn yesterday with AA v QQ on a clean board for 225 BBs. He hit the 2 outer. I truly didn't tilt a millimeter. I didn't care. I said nice hand and moved on and it was entirely sincere. The day prior, I got it in on the flop with AQ v K6 on a Q53r flop. Turn 4, river 2. I actually found this hilarious in the moment itself. Didn't bother me at all. And no, I did not have huge stacks that led to me booking wins anyway. I took L's.

I've always done the above, but still, a bit of stewing would take place internally. Just a bit, nothing that would grossly impact my play. But it's been lessening and I may have finally eliminated it totally. I'm thrilled to find that I can change my brain over time with meditation. It actually works.

I've played with a couple comp sci guys who were pretty big whales. Honestly the toughest rec players I've played against at high stakes were lawyers. Those guys just understand spots where people should and shouldn't have it.

Like, what's your sample size? P sure everybody is going to have different experiences with this.
I've played with plenty of whale lawyers. Not going to make any assumptions based on that.

Re: 2k- a poker story (wtmfl;dr obv)

are you sure you weren't playing against fake degens? I know too many people fit into this archetype
-25-30 with the the disposable income to play 2/5
-but not actually rich enough to donk away at 2/5
-know how to use the internet to study
-grew up studying warcraft 3 replays of pros, practicing and analyzing their own replays
-already have the study mentality built into their day jobs
-like being smart and showing off how smart they are

Re: 2k- a poker story (wtmfl;dr obv)

There are a bunch who I've played between 100-500 @ 5/10nl and one at 10/25 a good 500hrs. One of the comp sci guys has gotten better, but the other one literally plays the same as he did 10 years ago when I first played him and he went off for 12 buy ins at 2.5k.

I know how to play well, I just usually have a lot more fun playing very spewy. I just make sure I spend most of my time in games where everyone else is playing very spewy as well.

Re: 2k- a poker story (wtmfl;dr obv)

Personally my play as a rec play has a wide range. I suspect it is true for many rec players. I have an interest in the game and treat it as a serious hobby but put me in a fun spewy game and I will play EVERY hand.

This is part of why grindy left hand on right should regs make games worse without knowing it. If the table is fun I am a spot. If the table is headphones and iPads, well I am still a spot but a much much smaller one. That is if I donít head to the sports book or craps table.

My regular games the past 6-8 months have really spoiled normal live poker for me. My tolerance for being in a boring game is very low. Boring games means people aren't playing way too loose, which means I can't play way too loose. I'd much rather just play online than suffer through a boring live lineup. Live poker that isn't a fun social experience is just awful.

Re: 2k- a poker story (wtmfl;dr obv)

yea, I don't think anyone's going to say they enjoy out-nitting other nits in grindy games. The pinnacle of poker is always going to be having fun playing against whales. The poker ecosystem simply doesn't provide everyone with that opportunity though. We are very lucky.

Doesn't change the fact that you guys clearly know what you're doing and spewing for profit doesn't quite make you a spewtard. But we're splitting hairs on definitions, which always ends up going in circles.

I feel like since I switched to headphones I tightened my range up a bit and felt my rep improved so I ended up bluffing way more than I used to.

Catching up on Sessions. "Over the Pig" part 2 is phenomenal. The character descriptions and ensuing madness involving Santa Claus, The guy with the dog, and The Angel were epic. I also really really enjoyed the story of DGAF trying to take his jacket off.

Wore my "Straddle?" hat for the first time last night and got lots of positive comments. Quite a few people spontaneously straddled and credited the hat with the decision as well!

@dgaf

Listening to the pod and you mentioned collusion at Bellagio 5/10.

I havenít been back to Vegas for 2.5 years but always strongly felt that the 10/20 at the B was filled with colluders. Obviously itís possible that none of the guys who played in those games are even around anymore. Small sample size at the B as the vast majority of my hours in Vegas are at the V and Aria.

@dgaf

One more Sessions thing. You mention that you don't feel that it's consistent enough. And while that's likely a good goal for your other pod and most pods in general, Sessions is a first person account and many of the listeners can relate to being on light sleep after a long session or having to take care of kids or whatnot. Personally, I don't mind. That said, yeah, I would limit the 3 parters lol.

Games in vegas are so bad. Went out expecting there to be a ton of action which there is. Just not good action. Only good game I was in was a 5/10 that dgaf got started at a secret location where I whined the whole time as I drunkenly and douchily was putting Bellagio flags on my stack and finally just bought in for 10k cash as I played like a whale and went broke 913 times. Other than just played all pro 200/400 mix and all pro 20/40 NL and wondered why I drove out
