No idea if you will see this while playing but if you do come say hi I am in the 6 seat of the PLO game (table 6). Iím pretty sure you are in the mix game seat 9? Donít want to interrupt you while playing.

Sorry just saw this Yeah that was me. Feel free to come say hey if you see me in the wild again. That's actually my first public poker session in LA since like September.

Decided to make a quick trip up just to put some Commerce chips in my box and play a short session since I knew a game was going and an all pro lineup including an ex gf is a refreshing break from the all non-pro lineups I've been in the past few months :P The deck ran me over and I won way more than anyone should be able to win in 3 hours of that game. I'm a bit surprised there aren't still tire marks on my face.

I only started listening to Sessions maybe 2 months ago so had a lot of catching up to do. Recently started doing 2x speed and I'm up to early February episodes now. There is some absolutely hilarious stuff in there. There is something in every episode for every type of person/player to enjoy.

Glad to hear things went well! If/when I see you again I'll be sure to say hi.

I couldn't win a hand to save my life in the actual poker game but ran super duper hot in flips and won 5k

TYTY. My podding game was off last week. Some eps/parts of eps were pretty meh imo. I think I've figured out the reasons why (I'll discuss in the next one I do). Anyways, glad you still made it through! I swear I've been stressing out pretty hard that people would be off it after listening to a few of the eps this week.

Spoiler:

Thanks for the support!

Thanks. That ep and the one that follows (for totally different reasons lol) got a ton of great feedback. Then I basically choked for a week lol. I love the pod too much. It's basically the butterfly to the caterpillar that was this thread (when I spewed my heart out in here all the time)...

This thread is different and better now because it's a community and I barely even have to facilitate. The pod is where I let it all out though. It's my future as a content producer. One where people say I could actually make some moola because it has mainstream appeal. And so, of course, I kinda butchered it for a week after it reached its high point.

I was too tired, too wound up, and feeling too much pressure to match the performance of the championship run and my session with Santa Claus.

Spoiler:

Thanks for the support, miami!

Happy Saint Patty's day, everyone. I'll be drinking green beer with Sean Snyder and David Naimark somewhere in Encinitas tonight. Send a pm if you are in the area and want to join.

Cheers!

All the pods cant be as good as that interview from the Orleans

I enjoyed them all and nominate poker purgatory for the name of level 2 since you can see paradise (top section) from it but can not reach it.

Still not really wading in, but ...

Fishbone was, for maybe 4 or 6 years, the best damn live band in America. Unreal shows, absolutely unreal.

There is a documentary on Netflix about them that is worth watching (Everyday Sunshine, I think is the title). It's a study in 2 things:

* What happens when genius gets obsessed with the wrong things (their lead singer wasn't easy to work with on the best of days, once he insisted on working the theramin into each and every song, it all fell apart).
* The dedication of their bass player, John Norwood Fisher, to keep the band going throughout it all--playing clubs, playing stadiums, and then playing to 5 people on Tuesday nights in total dives, and then a bit of a rebound.

You want to talk variance: try figuring out why Fishbone never made it big. I mean, yeah, there's a lot of racism in there, but also, it's just running like ****.

The quality of your art has only a little to do with its success ...

I hate how things move on and off Netflix. According to justwatch.com, it's only available right now via iTunes.

DGAF,

While Reece might not listen to Sessions, your audience does include at least a few surgeons... including a colleague of mine who is one of the best gynecologic oncologists in the world. Youíre right that surgeons as a group tend to have heart at the table, and they are also degens.

Surgeon tip: a side effect of heart is staying with reads beyond their expiration date. If you know that a surgeon in the game has a certain read on you, you can use that against them to a more than average extent.

I think software engineers/computer scientists are the least degen and most strat-talking . Got some really good insights on GTO though

Think that's just the way it is and always will be. For those who are really sensitive it's best to distance and not get to close for those reasons. In poker there's no reason a person can't be friendly and go for drinks and dinner with poker friends. It just means poker strat/talk should be avoided.

I don't know if it's a beat or a brag but i've had so many experiences with people who are imo "good" who did really ****ty things for short term personal gain. Their circumstances and choices led them there and they did anything to get out of it. The more desperate the situation the worse course of action they generally took. That's just life though and most things are grey.

Back to the backing/staking situation which is what sparked it all. Being unemployed so broke you cannot afford to play 1/3 and 2/5 on your own dime is broke and desperate to me. It should be no surprise that people in that situation are going to do ****ty things in order to get out of it in the least amount of time possible. It doesn't mean they're evil or bad people it just means they made some ****ty choices is all.

I think the most important thing is for people to aware that it goes on and will continue to happen until steps are taken to nip it in the bud. Give someone an inch they'll take a foot and it's your own fault for giving them the opportunity
Was looking through some of the indexed posts on the blog site and wanted to touch on this one.

I'm mid-30s and I have a lot of good friends. None of us are shooting an angle for personal gain, that's for sure. But I have them because I chose to stay in the metro area I grew up in, as did many of them. Making friends as an adult is very difficult and I don't try to. Frankly, I'd rather see my existing friends even more than make new ones.

This was largely a conscious choice by me. Fulfillment generally comes from strong relationships and meaningful activity. And many olds really regret losing touch with friends. Being a data guy, I just took the data-driven route of avoiding those regrets and trying to maintain my childhood/adolescent friendships. I believe this has made me a much happier person.

I've played thousands of hours of live poker, mainly in one location. I have never made a friend there nor do I intend to. It's not the place for that imo.
