I don't mind if someone is new at their job and doesn't really get it as long as they're receptive to constructive criticism. If he used to be a floor in the smaller room and is used to games lower than 8/16 limit, it's at least reasonable that he'd assume the game might just break. When it's the biggest game in the casino at the time and the guy who has played more hours than anyone else in the bigger and biggest regular game in the casino since August (regularly starting terrible 3-4 handed games that I always lose in just to make sure a game goes that day) suggests that you need to adjust your approach, you should probably listen. Even if he's slurring his words because he's a blacked out mess.

I was shocked that he asked the first time but I assumed that would be the end of it. The second time he asked, I almost threw up on the table. And it wasn't from all the wine.

I have actually seen this attitude from several graveyard shift managers/floors over the years. They self-select into that shift, because the room is empty and there is almost no work that needs to be done for a good part of their shift. Then, they are completely fine with the games breaking and even the room going completely dark, because that means they can just relax and play with their phone (or watch SportsCenter) until the morning crowd comes.
