10/20 NHL River Spot... 10/20 NHL River Spot...

I am posting this hand for my cousin

HTX home game with the same 15-20 guys that rotate in once a week. Game is good and can play really big depending on who's in. Also, everyone are business owners/execs and a few play really well

H & V are very friendly but have lots of history of getting max value and bluffs through each other. They both have a fairly good gauge for each other's play and try to exploit when able

H: Good rec/semi-pro. Can play all games and mixes it well from all positions. Plays more on feel than math

V: Very good older rec that is a big winner and has binked a few tournaments. Mixes it up well too and can limp with big hands to trap

OTTH:

10/20 NLH - UTG open limps, V limps in MP, BTN calls, SB completes and H knocks in BB with ATo

Flop (100): AT3r

x, H donks 100, UTG call, V raises to 300, all fold and H calls

Turn (800): 2 (no BDFD)

x, x

River (800): J

x, V bombs river for 1200....H?

Why not?

My default would be to lead here. Almost anyone putting more money in here must have an Ax, there are couple of draws and I want value. I'm not too worried that I'm capped to 33 since almost everyone else is too.

In practice yeah I agree but in theory we are pure capped whereas UTG isn't capped (lol balanced limping ranges).

For simplicity's sake having no leads here is probably best, but betting makes a lot more sense when we're up against potentially multiple fun players.

Lead is fine.

Why check river? I would bet river.

As played I will call. But not happy. If I ever get caught folding 2 pair in a home game, I know my ass is getting banned. So pay the rake and move on.

Thanks for the responses...

When I initially got his text on the hand, I responded "fist pump call river". I also didn't agree with the flop donk because I think this board favors a lot of the limper ranges, Ax, KJ, KT, QJ, 33 that are going to stab at it

So, my cousin and I discuss this hand further.... When V bombs $1200 otr, what value hands can he have that checks back otf or what hands does he make/bluff with otr?

1) Ax, AQ, AK - Pots controls ott and has to turn top pair into a bluff otr (my cuz says V knows my cuz has two pair when he called V's raise otf. But it seems like these hands are going to check back river bc of SDV)
2) 33 - To be tricky ott (possible but unlikely)
3) TT - Limps in with a big hand and decides to be tricky ott (I discount this hand and AA)
4) KQ - Binks Broadway otr (my cuz says V wouldn't play the hand this way)
5) AJ - Pot controls ott and binks top two otr (very possible)

So, my cuz says he has a read on V and specifically puts V on AJ, thinks and mucks the hand

If it were me, I would think for about 10 seconds and call expecting to be good 75/25 and move on....
