Game is being played fast and loose. Villain is playing a little tighter and ABC preflop than most in this game, however he can mix it up postflop. Hero and villain have a lot of history together, with both trying to 'outplay' the other at times. Villain tends to like to 'protect' his value hands with big bets from hero's experience. He also tends to think hero is FOS with my stabby bets and likes to pounce on any perceived weakness (he's often times correct). Effective stack size is 6500. Hero has been crushing the game this particular evening if that makes any difference.

Preflop. 4 limps to hero on the button who limps with xx, SB and BB fold, villain raises to 240 from the straddle, all fold to hero who calls.

Pot is 670

Flop is 1093

Check Check

Turn is 5

Villain checks, hero bets 400, villain c/r to 1135, hero calls

Pot is 2940

River is 8

Villain bets 1135 again (he has about 4K behind).

What is hero's fold, call, and raise range.

I'm thinking I can fold all single pairs, call all two pairs and most sets, raise my straights obv, and then throw in some diamond draws to raise the river to balance out my value range. The problem is I want him to have some missed diamonds, but I'm not sure how balanced he is going to be, and how many diamond draws he would play in this goofy fashion, so maybe I don't need to concern myself too much with that. I think he will be folding anything that isn't two pair plus, and may even find a 'hero fold' with some sets, as he can't really have QJ or 76, and I can, and he may be folding too often in this spot. Thoughts?

A more important question is, what's your BTN limp/calling range pre here? JTo? 33? I think your line is interesting

And what's with his smallish sizing pre?

This game is played where preflop raises aren't respected as much as they should, so I'm fairly polarized with my button raises, so pretty much all my medium strength hands are a limp (small PPs, suited connectors and 1 gapers, and medium broadway cards). and I think closing the action, getting a great price, with deep SPRs and position, I'm calling with a pretty high percentage (maybe 100%) of that limping range. I'm even limping some garbage like K9o, Q7s, etc... and those would probably be a fold to his raise here.

I don't know what he shows up here that's super nutted - he should be betting most value hands otf/ott. Unless he caught that nice little 5 ball ott for a set. But who likes narrowing ranges down like that?

All that said, I like your assessment at the end of your OP. I'm going with that.

Folding all top pairs is too weak here. Turn is a pretty standard bet from you with 9x, flush draws, straight draws, etc. Minimum defense says you have to call or raise his small river bet around 73% of the time. Maybe in practice that is overly optimistic, but still, if you're laying down ATos that you took a pot control line with, you are playing quite exploitably, folding over half the time to a 35% pot bet.

ETA: JT is a good bluff jam here.

There’s not much I would call with other than like 89 (I wouldn’t check back 33 on flop)

I’m raising or folding virtually everything here. I’d probably fold most Tx and turn JT and QT into a bluff occasionally

Agreed.

V's line makes zero sense. His line has 'stupid bluff' written all over it.

Don't bluff this spot at all imo.

Why is villian straddling? If its part of how the game is playing i expect abc ish villians to not be taking this line as a bluff. If they're not too creative then they are putting JT in your range as a hand expecting u to call with more thsn trying to bluff u off it
