until today everything was great, with no error. now i want to turn it on and... nothing... literally nothing... Poker Tracker 3 logo image is there and it just on't want to enter in program. task manager shows PokerTracker.exe as - active.
'til this day entering in PT3 lasted less than 5-6 seconds and now, 10 minutes later, everything i see is that PT3 welcome image...
i hadn't made any change at my pc (just switch off and on, lol) and there's no any virus inside so i'm wondering what the fu*k is going on here?
really... help?

p.s. uninstall - reinstall? yeah, i made it few times... nothing...

again... help?

PT3, it doesn't work?
10-06-2008 , 07:19 AM
ditto. I have gotten it working, then next time I restart my computer, all i get is logo on screen, and have to restart. Reinstalled and it worked fine, then same thing on next restart.

I tried stop session/ start session on postgreSQL, but didnt work. I wonder if its something to do with database loading. But i am 100% not sure how to remedy.

it's (temporarily) all ok. i think problem was with postgreSQL. i moved it completely, installed it again, then (for 10th time for sure), reinstalled PT3 and it's working right now. hope it'll stand in this condition more than 5 days, lol...

Im looking for solutions in the faqs and guides. Database loading as shparoga has said is the prob im guessing.

im using postgreSQL 3.0 fwiw.

meh, i'll keep researching until someone has a response.

u using XP or Vista?
10-06-2008 , 08:22 AM
vista...

I have turned off UAC (not the prob, have that off atm)and had it working for a session. I am looking into the sql as the problem, its not auto loading the database.

when i get it started this is the error i get.

Unable to login to database(PT3 DB). Reason: server closed the connection unexpectedly This probably means the server terminated abnormally before or while processing the request.

I got the database to load one time but i am lost atm... Any help with this will be appreciated. TY!

That error is most often the result of an overzealous anti-virus or firewall which is closing the PostgreSQL (database) server.

Look in your a/v and firewall and make sure there's an explicit exception so that PostgreSQL (postgres.exe) can run and open up port 5432 without a problem.

Then restart the server by clicking Start --> Programs --> PostgreSQL --> Start Services and it shouldn't be shut down automatically again.

ok, got it going again... Turned off my antivirus firewall, and turned on the windows firewall... seems ok atm, see how it runs for a few startups. Thanks Kraada.

No problem; if there's anything else we can help with, just let us know.

ok, ran fine. Tested a restart to see if it would start fine again, but back to this msg.

Quote:

Don't quite know where i am going wrong atm, any ideas/ info required for u guys to assist me?

I might be on the wrong track here, but have you guys got the steps lined out here but but for vista, SQL 8.3.

ok. tried from the beginning again. I uninstalled/reinstalled as seen here - http://www.pokertracker.com/forums/v...hp?f=45&t=8047

I tried postgreSQL 8.2 this time as I saw some vista machines where having issues with 8.3.

Then I followed the steps on the PT3 page - Setting up Postgresql to autostart when windows boots

Once again it worked, but after restarting my computer I got the same msg as below.

Unable to login to database(PT3 DB). Reason: server closed the connection unexpectedly This probably means the server terminated abnormally before or while processing the request.

Any ideas?

Im just using the 60 day trial atm, and I have liked what ive seen but just dont know where im going wrong here, if i can get it installed and working in a stable manner then I will most likely be purchasing it. I seem to have followed everything to the letter in terms of installations, but assume i am missing some detail, and am eager to hear back from someone who might know what the issue is... Thanks guys.

ok, i have it working fine without my antivirus software installed and firewalls turned off. As soon as I put on the security it goes back to the not loading db error. Any suggestions on where to go from here?

ps, i cant seem to locate the exceptions on my antivirus. (i have antivirus from my internet provider, what should i try to get this all running with my virus protection on?
10-07-2008 , 05:19 AM
meh, this sucks. Any help would be appreciated. Once again, It all works when i uninstall my antivirus software, but when I reinstall and run my av it wont load the database.
10-07-2008 , 11:36 AM
What anti-virus software is it? If you could share which one it is I'll make a note for the future and see what I can do about finding a way to get that software to play nicely.

What is most likely happening is that your a/v is set somehow to block ports and it's blocking port 5432 which is needed by PostgreSQL. If you can set an exception for port 5432 instead of setting an exception for programs that might do the trick. Without knowing the a/v it's harder to come up with any other options though.
10-08-2008 , 02:03 AM
the antivirus software is "Optus Internet Security Suite". I don't know how much you could find out about it because it most likely is only used in Australia. (Optus is the service provider for my internet).

I will look into the unblocking of port 5432, then report back here with results. Thanks again.

A little digging showed that the program in question is a firewall as well. You should find that option in the firewall settings somewhere.
10-09-2008 , 12:43 PM
Ok, ive given up on trying to configure the antivirus. I am running AVG free antivirus now, without a hitch, so i will leave it at that for now and play out on my 60 day PT3 trial. Thanks for your help along the way.
