I'm running the beta 23 version of PT3 (very happy with this version) on Windows XP using Postgre 8.3.

Today when I started Windows I got a checkdisk message during startup and let Windows run the chkdsk program. It then started and everything seemed fine until I started PT3. In the data window I got this message: "Unable to loginto database. Reason: could not connect to server: Connection refused (oxoooo274D/10061). Is the server running on host "localhost" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432?"

Until today, Postgres started automatically. I opened the task manager and there was no Postgres process running. I opened pgAdmin III and tried to start the service, but got this message: "An error has occurred: Failed to start server pgsql-8.3: Errcode=5. Check event log for details.

The event log gives this information:

2009-01-17 02:03:06 GMT LOG: could not rename temporary statistics file "global/pgstat.tmp" to "global/pgstat.stat": A blocking operation was interrupted by a call to WSACancelBlockingCall.

2009-01-17 02:07:54 GMT LOG: received fast shutdown request
2009-01-17 02:07:54 GMT LOG: aborting any active transactions
2009-01-17 02:07:54 GMT LOG: autovacuum launcher shutting down
2009-01-17 02:07:54 GMT LOG: shutting down
2009-01-17 02:07:54 GMT LOG: database system is shut down
2009-01-17 02:08:07 GMT LOG: could not rename temporary statistics file "global/pgstat.tmp" to "global/pgstat.stat": A blocking operation was interrupted by a call to WSACancelBlockingCall.

Any thoughts? I'm not at all familiar with Postrgres, so I was wondering if I might simply do an uninstall/install.

Many thanks.

I haven't seen that particular error message before, but you could try reinstalling as per this FAQ, and you won't damage any of your data.

Thanks - but when I try to open that PDF file I get a "Bad Encrypt Dictionary" and it won't open.

Suggestions?

Thanks.

Problem has been solved.

I was getting a "Bad encrypt dictionary" message from the PDF help file because I was running an old version of Acrobat Reader. Got the new version, did the uninstall, re-install of Postgre SQL - and I'm back up and running.

Thanks.
