Unable to create PostgreSQL database: PT3 DB
Reason: Unable to login to database (template1). Reason: could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host "localhost" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432?

Everything works fine on my desktop, which runs XP. I get this error on my laptop, which runs vista.

Can anyone help?

Postgres error, please help

This means that postgres isn't running.
Please try starting the postgres service: Start -> Programs -> PostgreSQL -> Start Service.
If that, and a reboot doesn't work, try stopping the service (Start -> Programs -> Postgres -> Stop Service), running a search on your computer for postmaster.pid and then deleting that file, then restarting the service and see if that helps.
Note that you may need to turn on 'View hidden files and folders', and the file seems to be in the folder './Program Files/postgresql/[version]/data'.

Also, make sure you are running PT3 as Administrator? Right click the shortcut and select 'Run As Administrator'. This is different to being logged in as an Administrator.

I am running PT as an administrator.

I tried the start-> programs->postgresql->start database. I get this: "another server might be running; trying to start server anyway; could not start server; examine log output"

When I try 'stop database' it doesn't appear to do anything at all. A command prmpt window opens and disappears immediately.

Any ideas?

Did you look for the .pid file?

OK. I did what you said. Now I get a different error:

Quote:
Unable to create PostgreSQL database: PT3 DB
Reason: Unable to login to database (template1). Reason: FATAL: password authentication failed for user "postgres"

Follow the steps of this tutorial: How To: Disable PostgreSQL Password Authentication and it should resolve your issues.

It sounds like your PostgreSQL installation is severely damaged. Please try uninstalling and reinstalling it as directed in this post; and I recommend using 8.3.4 when the time comes to download a new version of PostgreSQL in step 4.

i am having similar problems, will reinstalling postgre delete the database with stored pt3 hands?
11-05-2008 , 03:04 PM
So long as you don't re-initialize the database it won't delete anything.

That error message indicates that you still have PT3 running while trying to upgrade. Close PT3, then run the installer file and that error message won't appear.
