Re the golf course -

I played the course back when it was the DI (I'm old) and thought it would be fun to play it again a few years ago - we were staying at the Wynn, in a room overlooking the golf course. Looking out the window, NO ONE on the course. Next day I look down, one twosome. Wander on down to the desk and find out 1) $600 a round ($200 more than Pebble Beach at the time 2) My partner, who has a condo in LV, can't play with me because he's not a hotel guest. $600 for a round and you can't bring a guest. Seemed odd. Didn't play.

It was stupid expensive and most people would have to rent clubs too.

I have a feeling they really only wanted invited guests on a comp playing the course.

A few years ago, my parents stayed at the Wynn, and me and my Mom wandered down to the golf shop entrance and asked if we could take a look at the course. They said no. Only paying golfers get to see it.

Shadow Creek is the exact same way. Have to be staying at one of the higher end MGM properties, have to arrive by MGM limo, costs an arm and a leg, and is super exclusive. They don’t want the course busy, they want to keep it relatively open for when the high rollers want to play it.

I think they relaxed the policy of having to be a hotel guest to play on the course a few years ago.

I mean, I'm an avid golfer. There's a certain value of playing a round and not having anyone else near you. Not to mention you can scoot around and get 18 holes in 2 1/2 hours in a cart.

Last round I played at the DI I just showed up without a time - they had a high-rollers tournament starting at 9a and the starter let me go out alone at 855a - just my wife (watching) and me in the cart. Just over 2 hours for 18 - nicest round I've ever had - and we had a clutch of ducks follow us around the whole round since my wife was tossing them treats...
