Harvey Weinstein might be the worst possible example. He already lost almost everything and he’s still in the news on a daily basis.

Just an hour ago I read on deadline.com about him losing another membership to something.

Fair enough, I just remember Weinstein was in all the headlines for a while and haven't noticed as much interest lately. I'm probably seeing the Wynn thing through more of an investor's viewpoint. When it comes to business-related news, the market can have a very short attention span.

My point was that all of this outrage will be over soon. Just like United, EA, Wells Fargo... people forget quickly. I hope Steve is ousted but the company will be just fine

My comment was very tongue in cheek. Buying stock in a casino then gambling there as a hedge just seemed like a funny thought to me.

I very much agree with the above, this will pass and the company will continue printing money.

I only buy equities I put my money in to irl. I have owned a position in $BX who at one point owned the Cosmo where I do most of my gambling. Only way to win money in a casino is to own the casino, and I can’t afford a whole one

LVRJ killed a story in 1998 about Steve's sexual harassment.

In related news, Sheldon Adelson did not own the LVRJ in 1998.

From the story:
Quote:
After the polygraph results came back, Geer, who is now the Review-Journal’s metro editor, said she was ordered to delete the story she had written. But she saved a printout of the story, the court records from the case, the polygraph results and the $600 bill for the polygraph examinations.

She could not recall who blocked publication of the story or who ordered her to delete it.
She worked on that story for some time, went with the accusers to take a lie detector test and thought the story was important enough to keep a printout for 20 years. She remembers basically every single detail from back then, except for the totally minor fact who blocked the story and who told her to delete it. I hope she gets subpoenaed to repeat that part of the story under oath.

Sheldon would have gone with the story, IMO.

He does now and it is on his perceived interest to do whatever he can to hurt the Wynn brand and did so with the publication of this story.

Although it appears that Wynn does deserve it.

I'm not sure if Adelson et al. are that happy about the situation. For one it might hurt Vegas overall, but more importantly, everybody knows their business might be next and every new revelation increases the chance for others to speak up.

I think the more important factor for the LVRJ is to control the narrative. Now they can at least claim they were the ones coming out with the story, even though it took them 20 years. Otherwise, there would have been a very real danger of one of the accusers from that story to come forward and not only blame Wynn but also the LVRJ. Not only would that have created a PR disaster but potentially legal consequences. Somebody who was assaulted by Wynn in 2000 could argue that situation would have been prevented if the LVRJ published their story two years earlier.

Can't stand anything that makes lie detector tests look actually legit. They're terrible and completely inaccurate.

That's not true. Sometimes the person is lying and the detector says they are lying. Other times they are not lying and the detector says they are not lying. These would be instances where the detector was accurate.

However, I agree with you that they are terrible and should not be used for evidence. I hate to think of all the people who "failed" a lie detector test and were incarcerated.

Which is why they are not admissible as evidence. So why would anyone agree to take one?

STATEMENT FROM STEVE WYNN:

"In the last couple of weeks, I have found myself the focus of an avalanche of negative publicity. As I have reflected upon the environment this has created — one in which a rush to judgment takes precedence over everything else, including the facts — I have reached the conclusion I cannot continue to be effective in my current roles. Therefore, effective immediately, I have decided to step down as CEO and Chairman of the Board of Wynn Resorts, a company I founded and that I love.

"The Wynn Resorts team and I have built houses of brick. Which is to say, the institution we created — a collection of the finest designers and architects ever assembled, as well as an operating philosophy now ingrained in the minds and hearts of our entire team — will remain standing for the long term. I am extremely proud of everything we have built at this company. Most of all, I am proud of our employees.

"The succession plan laid out by the Board of Directors and which I wholeheartedly endorse now places Matt Maddox in the CEO seat. With Matt, Wynn Resorts is in good hands. He and his team are well positioned to carry on the plans and vision for the company I created.

I want to thank all of the employees who have made Wynn Resorts the most admired resort company in the world, and for the support I have received from them in recent weeks. Most importantly, I want everyone to continue to be proud of this company and the many unique ways it will forever continue to delight guests."

I am interested in learning more about Matt Maddox's career path and how he managed to become CEO of a large esteemed publicly traded company at age 42.
