According to your experience, does "the sandwich" move work at the Rio when checking-in? (=slipping a bill 20$+ between your ID and your credit card while asking for complimentary upgrades). Did any of you get something cool out of it? (better room, resort fees waves, etc)
It worked for me when I visited Vegas, outside of the WSOP.

This. Units are nice and have balconies. The restaurant in the building is good, as is the spa. And it’s walking distance from the Rio. I’ve stayed here several years and will again this year.

Also, I assume the best PLO cash games running during WSOP are at the RIO?

Thanks,
I can only speak to 1/2 and 1/2/5 but Rio games are the best in my experience. They have a mandatory $5 button straddle and a time rake ($7 per half hour) which both encourage action. That being said, it's not like the other casinos have bad games. You'll find good action wherever you play during summer and the Strip poker rooms will be nicer and more comfy. Aria, Venetian, and Wynn are the other casinos that regularly run PLO.

Just booked an Airbnb about 8 miles south of the Rio for ~$300 June 1-8. Looks like its a pretty nice house with 3 guys in their 30s living there. It says they are business professionals and work normal hours. I have my own room w/ king size bed and private bathroom. This will be my first time using Airbnb.

Does anyone have any tips for car rentals in Vegas? Looks like I can rent a mid-size SUV from the airport for about $325. I've never actually rented a car now that I think about it. The ~$10/day insurance they offer isn't necessary, right? Of course ill check with my bank and insurance company too.

Is parking at the Rio free? Do they offer valet?

What'd you use to find that rental car rate? Historically I've used hotwire for McCarran pickup and it's often been a bit of a headache and/or long wait in line. I might try to save some $ this year and pick up the car at a non airport site. Anyone have recommendations related to the best way to go about doing this?

Don't rent at the airport. They have a surcharge. Contact an Enterprise near the airport on Paradise or Koval, then taxi there from the airport. It should be pretty cheap. When you drop off they'll take you to the airport. Verify all of this with the local office, obv, as well as the rates.

If you're under 25 you'll have a tough time renting from the major companies.

Pig4bill - Good Info - Thank you - are correct on the extra charge but it might be a rob from Peter to pay Paul situation on the Taxi cost. In my case 1/3 of the rental costs for two weeks is fee's and taxes.

Consolidated Facility CHARGE 4.00/DAY
CONC REC 10 PCT @ 10.00%
GOV FEE 10 PCT @ 10.00%
CLARK COUNTY TAX 2 PCT @ 2.00%
VEHICLE LICENSE COST 1.85/DAY
SALES TAX 8.25%

Found this explanation online

The first charge (CFC 4.00/DAY) is the one directly attributable to the consolidated rental car center. Renting from an independent location will save you $4/day.

The CONC REC 10% is also going to be gone from an independent rental location. A google search for "Concession Recovery Fee" says this is what the airport charges the rental company for having their business on-premises.

The rate I found was on Cheaptickets.com but seems to be fairly consistent on Hotwire, Orbitz, etc. I have not explored any off-site places yet.

pig4bill - Thank you for the insight. I am 30 with a clean driving record so looks like I make the cut at the major companies. I believe I saw a statement that anyone not in the 30-70 age range will be subject to extra charges.

If you make your reservation at an office close to the airport and taxi there upon landing, the cost should be pretty low because it's so close. If you stay at a Strip hotel and take a cheap shuttle there, Enterprise will pick you up. Verify with the exact office you will rent from to make sure. I haven't rented a car there in several years, offices close or move, etc. Hertz also sometimes does the pick-you-up thing.

Just booked a rental SUV at Enterprise on Paradise. Super easy to do online and didnt even need to provide a credit card. Pay at pickup. It's about $25 cheaper than the airport options.

Thanks again!

Is the days inn Wyndham a safe/semi safe walk to rio? It looks like it’s just 1.1 miles.

God no.

If for no other reason than walking that long in the summer heat, don’t do it. You can add that it’s also a ****ty area full of hookers near the hotel, and fairly desolate for the stretch between there and Rio. Go street view the route.

My wife wanted to Vegas with me originally and I booked Rio Masquerade suite(Only has king bed) for a good price. But now she doesn't want to go anymore and I may want to get a two beds room that I may share a few nights with my male friend. However, even the standard room is more expensive than the suite I booked. Do they charge more if I show up in the check in date and ask for two bed room? I'm ok with downgrade the room type and just wondering if they are going to ask me to pay the difference?

there is a good chance that they will just give you the 2 queen bed room if you aks for it at check in. I think it is just a question of availability.
