or consider this. Pack your own lunch and put it in your backpack. During break, step outside onto the patio, get a soda or water, eat in peace and quiet with no lines or pressure, then walk around a bit in the sun.

A cheap hotel on the strip on par with Excal prices is Flamingo. It's a lot closer.

Get out of the Rio and realize you are in Vegas, get some sun, and look at all the crazy properties, even if it means coming back from break 5-10 minutes late.

It'll help you regroup.

It'll also help with perspective, especially if you get a crucial beat.

It seems very sad to get 2 outed on the bubble, after a day and a half of play, and all you did was eat hot dogs in/around the Rio.

Enjoy Vegas. They have TONS of good places to eat.

thanks for all the feedback, itll be my first time travelling by mself thru airplane since im a homebody. I mean I do have SOME money to not worry about money much and cutting costs but im a ****ign cheapass going to a city where you should be anything BUT CHEAP

I didn't know about the codes for the rio, if I dont need a rewards card then honestly, rio seems like my best bet if I can do 4-5 nights for under 300-320$ seems like a flat out deal to me. I shoudl fucing pounce.

is the shuttle free and how often does it go around?

and honestly, I dont give a **** about food, im honestly thinking about going to IN N out like 4x through my 5 day trip if possible. I just will feel like I have NO time if I go uber out to eat during my break, might get stressed with the time difference. I ll prolly order dominos when im done with my tourney before I go play some cash games.

I do want to walk the strip tho if possible and see around, I do want to take in some of the strip, you guys are right when it would be a waste if I just sit in the trip for the entire 5 days. If you guys have any other suggestions, tips or comments, please let me know, i ll be booking my room hopefully by end of February or march(i dont think prices will rise too much by then) so any additional comments are welcome!!

The Deuce bus is a good way to sight see for cheap, goes up and down the strip and downtown. People watch and grab a cheap beer.

Book early and watch for deals. First LV trip if you bust early take a shuttle/bus to the strip from the Rio and just watch the people. It is a hoot. See the volcano in front of the Mirage, the Fountains of the Bellagio, (alas the TI pirate show is no more)and just walk thru some of the high end casino's and watch some of the high roller play.... some of it is mind boggling to me even to this day. Quick antidotal story 1985 My first trip to LV I was mesmerized walking thru Caesars Palace (the class property of that era) to watch people playing $500 slots........... I mean how much money do you have to have for it to take a $500 slug in a slot machine for you to get your Jolly's off.

Definitely get away from the felt at least for one night to clear your head and experience LV - PGcounty gave you good advice.

Enjoy the experience win or lose.

Fremont street downtown is way more walkable than the strip. Book at least 90 days in advance but no less than 30.

so I tested the theory, and I walked from Aria to Vdara (took at least 20-30 seconds) to meet a buddy, and my walking trip to Rio was canceled.

That said, after busting the $550 PLO at Wynn one day in gruesome fashion pre-bubble, I walked back cutting though palazzo, grabbing some stone crabs at Joes, and then down the strip to hit CVS and the Adidas store, and the heat was unbearable after a while. And I don't mind heat.

A mile or two in 112 with no casino or restaurant AC to break up the trip? The last thing you will feel like doing when you get there is playing poker in your dripping sweat clothes.

Locals have first hand experience but what Mizzoulegend just told you is pretty damn accurate. Now I am assuming you are not playing just watching and taking in the sights but from 11 am till sundown you just don't want to deal with the heat of any serious walk, it really is a concrete oven. After that is when the strip really lights up is the prime time to be a "tourist" anyway and then walking the strip is both relatively safe --locals feel free to chime in -- and not withering. Now I would always take some type of shuttle back to the Rio (probably from Caesars palace) from the strip. That walk was a stupid move grind for me at night back in 2006 and even then I didn't really feel totally safe and I would never do it again. Oh, and EVERYTHING is a lot farther away than it looks LOL and Mid 30's or mid 60's it always takes longer to get "there" than you think. Enjoy ........ you only get to see Las Vegas for the first time ONCE.

The lesser Ceasars properties, like Flamingo and Harrah's, often have $30 rooms several nights per week if you book through Total/Ceasars Rewards

thank you, maybe flamingo is something I ll look at, I was looking at excalibur, rio as the two places t stay but maybe i ll look into flamingo if its that cheap!

I do want to play 1-2 night of cash games(esc when I bust from tourney), feel bellagio is the most nitty and rio might be the most hit or miss, I heard good things from PH tho. but talking about best rooms for cash, thats not what this thread is about!
I will try to book my room by end of march if possible, i ll look for deals and I ve narrowed down to rio, excal and maybe flamingo as of right now.
thanks for all the input guys, I ll post here if I have another non poker question.! thank you for the feedback

Re: WSOP 2019: Hotel deals & tips

I gotta recommend downtown should you have a free day. Its not for everybody but its shielded from the heat. Buffets are reasonable and theres poker at The nugget and binions. They to will absolutely be having poker events as well. I really like the blue collar vibe. Binions has $4 rake and $2 hourly comp. I always take a day for downtown. Its a whole different world. LOL. As well I have a VERY special place in me towards binions from many years of railing the WSOP.
One final thing I always check Groupon Vegas for dining and entertainment deals. Being from Canada its gets very costly when your dollar is only 70cents US. I roughly save about $200- $300 just on dining and entertainment. I also have a no conversion fee (3%) credit card.

Even Planet Hollywood is $33/night for the Sun-Thurs times for at least one week this summer (when I'm going). That was using Total Rewards and the WSOP discount.

Edit: and yes, $80 after resort fees if you don't have Diamond status or above (resort fees waived).

Re: WSOP 2019: Hotel deals & tips

A few points:

There is no shuttle from the Rio any longer. There is one that visits Gold Coast across the street that goes to the Orleans and then the Strip (High Roller). It's very time consuming though, and will involve more time outdoors than you will like if it's a hot summer.

Join Total Rewards online. You will need to be a member anyway to play any WSOP event. It will be quicker to join now and just pick up a card once you get there, and you might get better hotel prices at CET hotels.

No personal experience but from everything I have read do NOT consider Hooters.

Also very good advice from PIG4BILL get a rewards card (covers all Caesars Properties) online now. Even as a newbie without points it may/will provide you an additional room discount.

Also if you have decent credit enroll for a credit card from Comenity Bank Visa Total Rewards card. You get immediate platinum status and you build points for free services at any Caesar property every time you buy anything with it. Without a sweat I had $200 of free meals last year from the points I built up in 6 months. It won't get you to Diamond status (no resort fees) but if you use a credit card anyway its an automatic win. There is a thread in the Las Vegas Lifestyle section I believe if you want to look into it.

Sidenote about Comenity is that they are inquiry-averse. I had the card very briefly...they closed the account when the first statement cut, citing the number of inquiries. At the time of the closure, they represented the ONLY inquiry appearing on the report they viewed. And that was the inquiry from when I had applied.

One other note was that they were, IMO, a tad stingy with their opening lines. I view stingy as anything under $15K and have both the income and credit report to support the higher lines.

That being said, the bonus was cleared prior to closure and the Platinum status posted in a timely manner. The status remains in place. The closure will be mooted out by having spun up the status from the MLife card and subsequent spend into the current Diamond status promotion (also with a thread in this subforum)...

This is probably old news but any Veterans out there, you get auto upgrade to 2nd tier for both MGM and Cesar’s properties, which includes free parking and front of line for buffets. Just show your veterans card at kiosk.

A 3 day pass is $20. Good deal if navigating the strip for multiple days. 24 hour passes are $8; good if you plan too see the strip for one day. 2 hour pass is $2; I've never gotten that one. I stay on the strip and Uber to the Rio during tournaments, that way if I bust early I save money by not Ubering to the strip because I'm not staying at the Rio.

I booked the Stratosphere from June 5 until June 14. It's cheap (around $33 without taxes and resort fees), but the cheapest room doesn't have a safe; the next best room has one (around $15 more). Th area surrounding it is dangerous too, but I'm alert in Vegas. There's two Deuce stations on the strip side and you are halfway there from the middle of the strip (south) and Downtown (north). I like it because I have both places within reach using the Deuce. I'm also staying at Planet Hollywood from June 21 until June 29. PH is right in the middle but more expensive. I love PH though so it's a treat for me.

Yes, walking outside feels like the inside of an oven. I bough a UV umbrella for outside. You can still try it as a tourist thing though. Uber/Deuce combination is good if you are staying at the strip but need to go to an exact location (like Rio) for a few days. By the way, Guy Fieri's restaurant "El Burro Borracho" at the Rio serves tacos al pastor on the hallway window; I love those!

Have fun this summer!

I believe the 2-hour bus pass is $6, not $2. Which is why you probably always bought the $24-hour pass for $8. Though I think a one-way WAX pass to the airport is only $2.

You're correct! I never buy it so I didn't even remembered the price. That makes it a worse deal.
